We have only had the fridge for two months, but so far, it meets all of the criteria I was looking for and I'm very happy with my choice. Before I even began looking for a replacement of my white, 12 year old, side-by-side model, I looked at Consumer Reports on-line, to learn about the different factors to consider when shopping for a refrigerator. I learned that, by choosing a "Counter Depth" fridge (approx 29 inches deep) eliminated about 3/4 of the makes and models available. Furthermore, I did not want stainless steel, nor black color since my cabinets are medium oak, the walls are peach and terra cotta colors, and the floor is a brown tone. The slate color was the closest to 'brown' and would work. (Very few manufacturers offered 'slate' or 'white'). I also learned that a 3 or 4 door "French Door" style provided the most shelf room, and all refrigerated items were at eye-level. Without an external water & ice dispenser in the door, the ice-maker is in the lower section -- freezer -- and takes up much less room than those located in the refrigerator section. I also read many 1, 2, and 3 star reviews of various makes and models to see what other purchasers didn't like. A frequent complaint that I read was in regards to the Japanese manufacturers where the waiting time for parts to arrive from over seas was very long, and the customer services was less than satisfactory. After eliminating all the makes and models that didn't work for me, the GE Profile, 3 door "French Door" model with a depth of 29 inches, in Slate color, best fit my criteria. Thus far, I have no regrets.
