I miss ya Will...

The original ID4 was a fresh & entertaining version of the classic War Of The Worlds story & locked Will Smith's Hollywood career into place for good.
That being said, I wouldn't have expected Roland Emmerich to revisit this one, despite his end-of-the-world film collection.
Sequels usually don't match up to the original & this one's no exception, but it is entertaining. After all, it is a willing suspension of disbelief & there is plenty of what I like to call "eye-candy" that fits that terminology. But don't yell at me if you find yourself saying (as I did) "Aw c'mon no way" at the sight of a continent sized spaceship landing & the planet doesn't even wiggle. Many of the original cast members are back (with a couple of interesting twists & surprises) & Judd Nelson is still as charming as ever, but you will miss Captain S. Hillard.
WARNING:Emmerich left the door obviously open for yet another one.
Would I recommend it?
Sure, but it's certainly not as good as a few of his other films.

Director Steven Spielberg's A.I.: Artificial Intelligence was not only a box-office disappointment, it also did something that his previous films have rarely or never done -- it alienated the audience and divided the critics. Perhaps with the release of the film onto DVD, Spielberg's misunderstood science fiction fairy tale will find a more receptive audience. Dreamworks Home Entertainment has released the film as a two-disc special edition, in either its preferred letterboxed version (1.85:1 enhanced) or in a pan-and-scan format. The image on the letterboxed version is excellent throughout. The soft smoky interiors of the first part of the film have a nice auburn glow to them, which nicely contrasts the sultry colors that take over for the second part. There is no evidence of color bleeding or flaring up and the image is consistently balanced. Many scenes, which are filmed purposefully dark, still manage to keep a richness and depth that is difficult to replicate outside of a movie theater. The disc also comes equipped with various soundtrack options, including an English language 5.1 track, 2.0 Dolby Surround, and a 5.1 DTS option. The first two tracks are vigorous and active, though always keeping the dialogue clear. The first disc contains the film itself and a short ten-minute documentary on the making and origins of the film. But it's with the second disc that one finds a plethora of supplemental material. The disc contains numerous mini-documentaries on all stages of A.I.'s production, from its initial planning stage with Stanley Kubrick to its final release. There are some nice interviews with actors Jude Law, Haley Joel Osment, and others. Also of interest are the interviews with the storyboard artists, production designers, and the many special effects technicians from Stan Winston's factory of wonders and Lucasfilm's ILM studio. The disc also contains a couple of theatrical trailers, a multitude of storyboard sketches, production photographs, some interesting interviews with sound designer Gary Rydstrom and composer John Williams, and much more.

Stanley Kubrick wanted to make this movie & so would bounce ideas off his good friend Steven Spielberg. But when Kubrick died unexpectedly, it looked like the project would have faded as well, but Spielberg took it up & has made a movie that not only is entertaining but will tug at your heart in so many ways you will always be able to repeat view it. Programming the proper responses into an artificial intelligence is one thing. But can a robot actually learn to understand what love truly is? Pure & hard core. Funny & sad. Mysterious & obvious. Plus, have fun identifying guest star's cameos. This is a masterpiece & belongs in every "permanent" collection.

Like most folks (I would think) I bought a basic laptop (from Best Buy of course) with minimal memory. Just something to help me in small tasks. That was 6 years ago. The memory has become full & it slows down everything. But then I found this Passport HDD on sale & immediately began transferring files to it (at USB 3.0 speed) & I couldn't be happier. My laptop's speed is noticeably better as a result. Keep your eyes open because when they're on sale these little babies are worth their weight in gold pressed latinum. The WD product line is reliable & has never once failed or gave me a worry (this is my 2nd WD USB drive-I bought a 160 Gb HDD for my PS3 long ago & it still functions like new). It can back up & save your files automatically as well (if you're willing to set it up that way).

Labels Solve Many Needs

Remember old flimsy "punch" type labellers that would physically emboss characters on thick plastic adhesive tape? While it worked fine, it was borderline annoying & tedious to use; turn the wheel & punch, turn the wheel & punch, & if you made a mistake (ARRRGH) the tape was wasted & you had to start all over again. This little gem eliminates the physical drudgery & reduces the chance of an error with a small digital LCD screen letting you preview what will be printed. It has a variety of type sizes (specific to the size of tape in use of course) & even special characters like hearts, balloons & more for many different occasions. I'm quite fond of the "cable" labelling mode that creates a perfect label for speaker wires, stereo component cables, HDMI cables & more (which beats the heck out of the plastic bread bag clips with felt tip pen writing I had been using). It's compact in size & easily taken "on the job" for nearly all of your needs. It even comes with its own fresh batteries‼ This may just be the solution of your labelling need. It was for many of mine. Particularly as I got it on sale. Love it.

Quality Micro Memory Card at a quality price

I have never had a problem with, or have had reason to regret any Kingston brand memory card purchase I have ever made. 32gb at $20 shouldn't be passed up. If there's any drawback it's the lack of a plastic snap-close carrying case, but if that's gonna be your deal breaker then there's nothing I can say. I will always take advantage of a decent product on sale. You should too (if & whenever you can).

The art of war may be thousands of years old, but on the battlegrounds of the future combat has become a big business. Where men and women once stood in defense of their nation the employees of Private Military Corporations (PMCs) are deployed, armed with the latest technologies and an arsenal of advanced weapons. Soldiers no longer need to specialize in any area of combat — equipped with powerful exoskeletons, they become the masters of all battlefield skills. In this new age of privatized combat, one PMC stands at the forefront of the industry, the juggernaut Atlas Corporation. Founded and led by Jonathan Irons, perhaps the most powerful man in the world, Atlas Corporation represents the evolution of modern combat. Under the oversight of Irons and men like him, the rules of warfare have been completely rewritten, and national borders change with the demands of the highest bidders. Do you have what it takes to navigate this ever-changing military landscape and answer the Call of Duty? The latest installment in the popular combat series, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare plunges you into the combat of the future, orchestrated and fought by PMCs with the latest technology in armor, weaponry and tactics. Enter the world of Jonathan Irons — the founder and president of the world's most dominant PMC, Atlas Corporation — in a powerful performance by Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey. Step onto the battlefield in a powerful exoskeleton that provides a massive force multiplier, delivers strategic freedom and enhances even the most adept soldier's abilities with optimized movement, jumping and grappling, covert cloaking abilities and biomechanics that take your strength, awareness, endurance and speed to the next level. A new twist on a VERY ambush friendly game

DISCLAIMER
I exclusively play the multiplayer games online (as opposed to the disc-based campaign) & this review will reflect that (so you know).
This is the latest incarnation of the COD franchise & it freshens things up a bit by adding vertical movement by way of the new exo-suit; an exo-skeleton frame worn that allows repetitive jet assisted high jumps & speed dashes to your movements. The suit can equip other abilities such as cloaking, hovering & a personal enemy radar ping detection as well, but they are so short lived that even when adding an extended battery pack perk it's hardly worth it (unless your own skill set is superior already). With the added jumping ability, most rooftops are now easily accessible, bur at a price; smaller maps. You can only squeeze so much into a disc, even onto a Blu Ray disc. When you add this 3rd dimension to them, it constricts the total amount of data you can store on the disc. There aren't any maps the size of Ghosts Stonehaven for example. Maybe bigger maps will come via expansion packs. It also adds some futuristic weapons (like laser style ray guns & sniper rifles with high-explosive rounds to name a few). Gone are the spendable points for weapon attachments & other purchases. We're back to unlocks via leveling up & weapon performance. An emblem editor (like in Black Ops II) is available but don't be surprised if a suggestive or outright vulgar one gets deleted by the powers that be (& rightfully so). Evidently, they want the mayhem of cartoon blood, gore & violence to be a bit more family friendly(?). Point streak rewards can be customized which results in a higher point total to achieve it but a better quality of them when you do, like a booby trapped care package that only you can open for example. Also, in my opinion, this is the MOST tactical ambush (as I like to call it) or "camper" friendly COD I have ever played (much to the chagrin of many). There are darkened corners & hidden recesses EVERYWHERE. Those who treat this as a run & gun game & not a simulation of real-world combat may be upset at times (& quite vocal about it in the multiplayer lobby after a match so be prepared). However with smaller maps you WON'T be able to stay hidden for long. The game was launched with several glitches & issues, & there's been a a few patches every few days so far as they respond to them & try to "polish some of those scratches" out of it. Overall, there is a small learning curve to adjust to but for the most part, (& with occasional help from others), after you're used to it (& they patch all the issues) you should enjoy it. This is NOT something for the younger crowd. The ESRB rates these games as M for a reason. Even MORE so if you play "public" multiplayer games online. It's anonymous people over the internet. Need I say more?
While I wouldn't suggest this game for everyone......

"This Twinkie thing isn't over"

Yet another take on the zombie apocalypse. However, like Sean Of The Dead (another excellent film) did for he UK, it adds a comedic twist that gives it fresh "life" (so to speak). It's the classic story of the struggle for survival in the good'ol USofA when it all hits the fan after the dead have risen. Apparently derived from a proposed tv show that even FOX passed on (go figure), it's the story of a young man who's ever growing list of survival rules (wonderfully highlighted in digital effects) & a shotgun help him to stay alive. In his travels he meets a seemingly reckless guy who takes great delight in the dispatching of the undead, but their strenuous friendship is tested when they meet two sisters who have their own unique rules of survival. The tv show also would've had a "Zombie Kill Of The Week" in every episode - watch for it in the flick. PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL THE SURPRISE GUEST STAR because when it happens, you will be so surprised that if you were told in advance it will probably spoil the moment. It's THAT worth it. Also, stick around through the credits for the easter egg after them. Language, violence & gore makes this unsuitable for younger viewers.

One thing that can be said about Warner Bros.' DVD library is that it's consistent; their discs rarely contain more than filmographies and a theatrical trailer or two. Fortunately, there are exceptions to that rule, and apparently someone within the studio saw fit to make John Boorman's epic retelling of the Arthurian legend one of those exceptions. The major addition here comes in the form of a commentary track by director Boorman, whose monologue is refreshingly insightful at a time when many commentaries are used up with friendly yet ultimately meaningless banter. Also featured are, as usual, the theatrical trailer, scene selections, and a cast and crew section that curiously contains only information on Boorman himself. Fans of the film who have until now only seen it on VHS will be amazed at the clarity of the audio mix. The soundtrack has been remixed into a digital 5.1 presentation that makes the best of its limited source material and manages to separate nicely. There is a prominent bass track which was certainly not present in previous incarnations of the film and which adds a great deal of weight and authenticity to the many elaborate battle scenes. The film has never looked so good; almost every instance of film grain has been removed and the colors, particularly the flesh tones, are well balanced. The picture is presented in a non-anamorphic letterboxed format at 1.85:1. Overall, Boorman's insightful commentary alone, not to mention the outstanding audio and video quality, makes this disc well worth owning.

A Fairy Tale For Adults

This is an excellent telling of the King Arthur legend. It's got it all; love, betrayal, justice, treachery, & adventure. Starting with his father Uther Pendragon, whose uncontrollable lust for power & an ally's wife nearly brings ruin to the schemes of the wizard seeking to bring peace to England, Merlin The Magician. This ISN'T Disney folks. This is truly an epic grand tale. Also look for Patrick Stewart & Liam Neeson too in the early stages of their fine careers. This is a great addition to any home library of "popcorn" movies (& make two batches as it's over two hours long). You won't be disappointed.

I don't want to spoil anything & my joy alone might not convince you to buy this. So? How to describe it best? Allow me to tell you that this film's plot is SO surprising that it will be amazing if they can maintain the level they've set for themselves in subsequent Avengers & any other films following it. Younger ones might be shaken watching it as the body count in it is only surpassed by Cecile B. Demille himself. Cap is coming to grips with life in the 21st century (he carries a notepad for stuff to check out-freeze frame it). However he starts to have misgivings about feeling like Nick Fury's "personal janitor" in an early hostage rescue mission made worse when someone he trusts acts untrustworthy. However, when the real betrayals begin, his world is turned upside down & our hero becomes a hunted fugitive from S.H.E.I.L.D. when he tries to uncover the truth after the Russian master assassin known as the Winter Soldier appears. To win this battle, Captain America will likely have to lose everything. There are some VERY poignant & charming moments scattered throughout that make for a tremendous emotional rollercoaster ride of highs & lows featuring several "reveals" that might reward a few fans that have said "I told ya so" to everyone. Stan Lee's cameo is adorable. Two easter eggs in the credits but no commentary track in my single disc BluRay's extras or a Marvel One Shot mini film either (boo-I really love them all). Bottom line; IF you're a fan of the Merry Marvel Marching Society & have waited decades for this film (& the others) to finally come to be, you MUST add it to your collection. You won't be disappointed.

Intriguing & Surprising

When this film first came out, they tried to closely guard the big reveal secret of the movie & so I'll not disclose it here. Basically it's a story of a horrible disaster that occurs as a young man attends a surprise going away party to celebrate landing a new dream job in another country. His best friends have a camcorder to catch it all but when the unimaginable happens, the rest of the film is about trying to survive. The ENTIRE film is shot POV style from this single camera & we are treated to images of a bittersweet love story, goofy friends plotting a party, the horror that is designated as Cloverfield, & the resultant scramble to live & love. The special effects are excellent, the idea is wonderful (& a much better than The Blair Witch Project), & at times sadly poignant as you realize the happiest moments are being recorded over to "document" this incredible event. If I have ANY complaint it's the jerkiness of the hand-held camera throughout, but you can become used to it soon enough & it DOES add to the realistic depiction of the event. I love showing this film to friends who've never seen it & tell them nothing in advance (I won't even let them see the liner notes on the back of the case). They're surprised (& pleased) every time. An old-fashioned idea done well for the 21st century audience.

Can we use this for our Playstation 3?

We'd like to get more memory on our console and would like to know if it is compatible.
I have a PS3 slim model system & it will not recognize this drive. However, my PS3 works well with a smaller WD 160Gb HDD that has only USB 2.0 connectivity so it's likely an issue with the 3.0 backwards compatibility aspect of this newer drive. I would think any traditional 2.0 drive, HDD or USB Flash, should work fine. Please note that you might not be able to transfer games to it. Only game save data, & most videos, music & photos stored on your PS3 that aren't otherwise copy protected.

No. It is a classic HDD spinning at 5400 rpm using a USB 3.0 connection to achieve it's best transfer speeds.

I backed up my pics from one computer and when I connect it to the other one to transfer them there is no file saved. I believe it should be able to be used on more than one computer. Right?

This sounds quite odd Steve. I'm no expert, so I would save yet another picture file on it (perhaps even several in a folder & everything) with unique file names & then when it's connected to that other computer & says no file, begin a search of the drive for that unique name. Please note that data may not display if you're using the password function on the first computer but not on the second (but I would think you already know that).
