Good voice quality for Cortana voice control

I bought a new Windows 10 workstation that came equipped with Cortana. I wanted a good quality microphone so Cortana would respond appropriately without misinterpreting my voice commands. I liked how small this unit is while providing a strong audio signal. I have had no problems with Cortana understanding me while using this device!
The only problem I had was that I could not get the included audio recording software to install properly on Windows 10. However, I prefer to use Audacity (a free program) anyway so I wasn't particularly disappointed.

I bought a high-end VR ready computer but needed to connect it with Wifi because my office is some distance from our internet modem. My new computer had an ASUS motherboard so I thought an ASUS wifi adapter would be the most compatible with it. I found this ASUS USB wifi adapter and I liked how small and unobtrusive it was. I purchased this battery backup because the power supply to our home is frequently interrupted by falling tree limbs in windy conditions. Sometimes these storms result in "brownouts" which can be far more damaging to electrical components than an outright outage.
The APC unit is solidly built, has spacing of outlets to a accomodate large AC adapters and a replaceable battery when the battery will no longer recharge. Definitely a winner in my book!

Nice virtual camera feature but graphics crude

As someone interested in VR I bought a Viewmaster VR starter pack a few months ago since it was on sale for the same price as Google cardboard and much better constructed. I really liked the Experience Destinations pack that includes hot spots that you can click on to "walk" through real places like the Parthenon. When I saw this Experience pack about dinosaurs on sale I had to have it since I have loved dinosaurs since I was a child decades ago. I also enjoy a game called "Carnivores" for the PC and smartphones where you wander around the rainforest hunting dinosaurs and getting attacked by dinosaurs if you're not careful. Unfortunately, this pack does not include the ability to "walk" through the prehistoric rainforest to find dinosaurs. It does provide a 360-degree view from a fixed point but the graphics are circa the 1990s. I did like the virtual camera feature that allows you to take snapshots of your experience but the animation in the experience itself is a short looping clip so there is no surprise or random aspect to your dinosaur encounters. Replayability is minimal after you have seen the six or so different dinosaur species clips. The AR feature is also a bit strange. You are instructed to look at the center of the game disk and then you see tiny 3-dimensional figures of dinosaurs and rock clusters. If you move closer to the disk, the figures get larger but do not present an immersive overlay of your actual environment as the AR (augmented reality) name would suggest.

My Echo Dot now an integral part of my household

I purchased this Echo Dot for a friend for helping me during a family illness. I'm sure she will find her Dot to be as helpful to her as mine are to me. My Echo Dots with Alexa are now very much an integral part of my day. When I get up in the morning I say "Alexa, Living Room On" and the lights go on in the living room. I walk in and sit down and say "Alexa, my Flash Briefing please". I then listen to the news and get the latest weather forecast for the day. Then I say "Alexa, what's on my schedule today?" and she tells me whatever I have scheduled in my Google Calendar". As I prepare a meal and notice I'm getting low on coffee I say "Alexa, add Coffee to my Shopping List" and she tells me she has added coffee to my shopping list. I drive to the grocery store and open the Alexa app on my iPhone select shopping list from the menu and load my cart. At noon while I am preparing lunch, Alexa sounds a tone to remind me to set out my noon medication. In the evening, I take a warm bath to relax and tell Alexa to play "Mary's Soundtracks" and listen to my favorite movie music while I'm soaking. Then when I'm ready for bed I say "Alexa, Living Room Off" and Alexa turns off the living room lights. I'm sure I'll find other useful applications, too, as more "skills" are developed by Amazon and third parties as well. I have a feeling this is just the beginning!

As an owner of an iPad, I hesitated to consider the Amazon Fire Tablet as a supplemental device but my purchase of a network of Amazon Echo Dots and the Voice Cast capability with the Fire tablet was almost irresistable. So I bought one as a gift for my friend along with an Amazon Echo Dot to get her opinion of its value. My friend just raves about the Fire Tablet - especially the smaller, light-weight aspects of it. I know I would feel better toting around a small Fire tablet that costs only $40 instead of a $500 iPad so it looks like the next Fire tablet will be for me!

So quiet I could hardly believe it was running

When my old dishwasher became so noisy you couldn't stand to be in the same room with it I started searching the web for one that was really quiet but didn't need a second mortgage to pay for it. My new LG Dishwasher fit the bill perfectly. It only generates 48 decibels when operating and was so quiet i had to place my ear against the door to check to see if it was running or not after my husband installed it. The dishes also came out sparkling clean and I like the tine angle adjustment levers and movable silverware baskets, too.

If i set it up with my iphone , does my iphone have to be in the house for it to play pandora and work ? looking to get it for my mother but she does not have a smartphone. She does have wifi and a computer at home. thanks.
You need to login to your mother's network when you do the initial setup of the Dot but after that it should work whether you are present with your iPhone or not. If you have Dots of your own, though, I'm not sure if there would be any conflicts once you change your network back to your default. The Alexa people would be very helpful with this, though, if you call them.
