I bought this item instead of a display port to display port cable because it was open box special, cheaper, and available. It did not work. I returned it and purchased a display port to display port cable at Best Buy On Line. That cable worked. I attribute the cable failure to previous purchaser and that is probably why it was returned.

I'm looking for a hard drive that doesn't encrypt the files. Is there a way around this? I use it for pictures only. I had a My book Essentials 2t hd and the case broke and I can't get any thing out.

Are there any monthly/annual fees with SmartThings?
I don't have the home monitoring portion of Smartthings, but from what I have read, the system will alert YOU to problems, but if you want the system to monitor and alert the police or fire department, then you would have to use a monitoring service and you would have to pay for it just like any other security monitoring service.

Can this HD be used by multiple computers in a small business setting?
Sure, if you know what you are doing. You have to make sure you set up folders for different computers. Also, anybody who uses this drive could see whatever is on it. Of course the above applied only if you manually copy files to the drive. If you want to use the included software, I have no idea. I roll my own.
