Will the starter version give you reports. I have an older version of quicken 2014 with my saved reports going back to 2003 Will these transfer over and will I be able to do reports that show me what my expenses are in certain categories?
The only way to actually know is to go through the upgrade/conversion step. Keep in mind that during the install of the new Quicken, it normally uninstalls previous versions while saving a copy of your data file in the previous version format. So you have to have a pc/laptop with the old version running if you want to be sure that your reports survive. Most folks simply print out a hard copy of the old reports to keep for reference and then proceed with the upgrade/conversion. The default categories that come with Quicken will be there.

We have the 2005 Quicken Basic on disc, backed it up, & now cannot pull it up for some unknown reason. If we purchase this Quicken, will our past 12 years of financial data merge into this program? What is the yearly fee for? Never paid it before.
Actually, you may be directed after loading Quicken/setup to go to a Quicken download page and download an earlier version to ensure that your data file will be updated for use with Quicken 2017. The new program appears to be good for two years, which may mean that you have to "re-subscribe" a couple of years from now. "You’ll still be able to use Quicken to view all your data, enter transactions manually, and view/print reports. Online-based features will be turned off, meaning you won’t be able to download transactions directly from your bank or use Bill Pay, but you will still be able to enter transactions manually and access all your data. If you decide to renew your subscription, all the online-based features will be turned back on. (Note that this does not apply to the Quicken Starter edition. If you are using Quicken Starter, all your data will become read-only when your subscription expires.)"

Why is it that Best Buy never updates their stock at the local stores? I know that there were hard drives of the kind I was looking for on the shelves there, yet they claim they are unavailable on the website?
Because of the high turnover of merchandise, especially on sale or in advance of holidays/peak shopping periods, it is always best to check with your local store for products after obtaining the pricing/SKU information from Best Buy.com. My experience using this method is that Best Buy staff are excellent at quickly confirming if merchandise is on hand at their store or a nearby one. If available, simply complete your purchase with the Best Buy staff during the call.
