I purchased this as a spare in case one of the other hard drives flakes out, or I install Linux on a the drive it will replace. Not worried at all that it will not perform

Is this compatible with Dell Studio XPS 8100?
yes, desktop hd have been standardized. just be sure that the connections, ex - sata or what type of wiring you have.
