This game brings something new to he table for Gearbox. While the art style of Battleborn will have you reminiscing of your days playing Borderlands, the game pretty much leaves all its similaritie there. It has much more in common with League of Legends or DOTA 2 than your average multiplayer FPS. The game is about unique heroes that you must master, while choosing which of their stats to increase. It is part of a wave of new games called hero shooters. However, many compare this game to Overwatch. While both are onjective based arena shooters that put you in control of a hero with their own unique weapons, stats and abilities, these games have very little in common after that. Battleborn offers the ability to customize your hero as they level up in a match, choosing which of two traits to pick each level progression. Add this to the ability to deploy turrets, stat boosting structures and drones at designated spots on the map, and you have a game that will likely not play the same each time you play. The animations are beautiful, but can be a little over the top during intense moments, making it hard to play competitively, as you lose track of what's going on around you. The game also feels as though it isn't polished enough for it to be taken seriously as a competitive online game. However, the foundation and ideas that Gearbox has laid will make this game a definitive title in this new genre as they continue to update and add content to the game. Gearbox is actively working on this title, so look forward to all the little problems being smoothed over within the next year.
