Easy install. WIndows 7 requires a GPT partition (which Windows prompts you for), then don't need to download the Seagate software. Faster than previous 5400 rpm drive.

Is the auto back up software in CD form? Or can I download it?
I am buying a laptop without an internal CD Drive and I won't have access to any sort of CD-based software on that (I'm not willing to buy an external CD Drive). I would like to do the auto backups onto this external hard drive, but it isn't necessary as I could do the manual ones with the usb.

No you can't. There are other products available for that purpose. Google "digital photo storage"

Is this a "green" drive?
I'm hearing that "green" drives are not the best choice for your boot (main) drive due to their slower performance.
My experience is this drive performs very well. If you want faster you should get an SSD.

"Desktop"? OK in a external dock, thru USB? Can reformat to format exFAT?
Not certain but I think it's too big for FAT. Need either a GOT partition or extended MBR with Seagate software. Check their website.

Will this work in a Dell xps 8300
I want to get an external WD hard drive from BBuy but want the faster transfer speeds of the 3.0 usb. So, am looking at options to do this. I don't know much about poking around inside a computer so it will have to be simple. . . as in SIMPLE. Thanks.
