A fresh take and breath of air from the recent onslaught of superhero films, came at the right time to put a darkly humorous and violent wrench into the mix. Although there's very little plot, the irreverent nature and performance by Ryan Reynolds is the thing to see.

Slow atmospheric telling of a withdrawn family succumbing to the worst of their religious beliefs. Strong acting by all, especially young Harvey Scrimshaw who has a bravura scene. Not for everyone. Those looking for gore, loud bursts of fright and violence will be disappointed. Very well made, haunting little film.
In the second season of this anthology series about unusual police investigations, Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell star as detectives trying to solve a bizarre murder case in the corrupt city of Vinci, California.

It was going to be a challenge to equal the quality and daring storytelling of the first season and sadly the second season falls way below. The good is the acting by the leads, particularly Colin Farrell and some very good scenes scattered about. The bad, main story line is very disjointed and imbued with cliches we've seen before. There is a dramatic drop in quality for the dialogue as well. The show isn't horrible but it's no True Detective season 1.

Very uneven film about a star chef trying to make a comeback for his name and himself. Large supporting cast is given little to do and underdeveloped. Cooper is likable on his own but his character does not have an arc that can carry this. Nice production with sprinkles of some substance.

Fascinating reboot of the well known series offers interesting takes on all the characters and the development of the section team. Plot is still hard to follow but that comes with the territory.

Otep's new album explodes right from the start and doesn't stop til it's over. Nice and more focused than previous work. Downside is the appropriation of Mad Max type imagery. Should stick with her strong point which is the music and not concern too much with the visuals.

It may sound sordid, but the film is tasteful and presents the story from the child view which is a testament to the Mother's ability to keep the harsh reality of their situation away from him. The bond between the two are tested as they deal with many drastic life changes. Solid adaptation of the book, well directed and performances by Jacob Tremblay and Oscar winning Brie Larson are unforgettable.

Comic book based cop show with a solid acting ensemble and high production values. Real New York locations are well utilized to double as the city of Gotham. It is a first season, so some story lines take awhile to find their zone. Hard edged tone keeps the viewer entranced and regular Batman readers will be either displeased or surprised by the wild diversions from the comic book Gotham. It is an highly ambitious series.

Well executed and stylish story on the war on drugs as we are shown different approaches by various law enforcement that puts their morality and ethics in question. Strong performances by Del Toro, Brolin and Blunt. Photography, music and direction are top notch.
