I received this with my last tech purchase of an iPad. It is free for 6 months and then locks into a paid renewal. I find security for Apple devices mostly redundant as Apple addresses most security issues through constant iOS updates. And, the iPad without the software seems to be faster.

Refurbished usually means that the item was returned or was found faulty. To resale the item has to be more thoroughly inspected then new items. I buy refurbished ALL the time with great effect. Just make certain you can return the refurbished item as well - window maybe shorter.
