As Much Camera as I Think I Need

I was looking for a replacement for my functional (but weary) Canon Powershot 560 point and shoot camera. I hadn't looked at cameras in quite a while so after looking at some online articles I went to my local Best Buy store so I could get some hand's on time. The new point and shoot cameras that would be the direct replacement for my Canon have gotten very compact and I was not comfortable holding them. I decided I wanted to try a "superzoom point and shoot" and had to choose between the Canon SX 530 and the Nikon B500. I had actually selected the Canon to take home but found that the particular camera I was given did not come with a battery and the extra battery I purchased was the wrong size. The store did not have any more of the Canon SX 530 so I took home the Nikon as a replacement. The Nikon is around 4 oz heavier and has a little less zoom power (40X vs 50X) than the Canon, but the Nikon uses AA batteries, not a dedicated battery pack. This means that I don't have to carry a dedicated recharger and AA batteries can be had just about anywhere. The B500 seems to have all of the automation I need plus a good quality zoom lens. I've just started tinkering with it but it seems like it was a good choice for me overall.

This monitor was a replacement for a 19" LCD with a 3:4 aspect ratio. The 16:9 ratio enable me to easily see two windows side-by-side. I was originally looking at 24" monitors but the 27" HP was very close in price so I chose it instead. The only downside is the lack of built-in speakers.

Good Battery Life

I purchased this mouse to replace a corded model on my laptop. So far it appears to be functional and has exhibited better than expected battery life. It was bit pricey for just a mouse, it may have been a better deal when combined with a wireless keyboard.

Nikon provides transfer software that you can download from their website. I was also able to just remove the SD memory card from the camera and plug it into the memory card slot on my PC to transfer images.

Does the lens cap have an attachment to the camera so you don't lose it? Or is it a separate piece?
There is a short piece of lightweight cord to connect the lens cap to the neck strap. I have a feeling the lens cap will be lost shortly.

does this camera have a viewfinder?
Sadly, it does not. The optical viewfinder has all but disappeared except on the high-end DSLR cameras. The 3" LCD display seems to do a good job and I am able to see images in bright sunlight. The LCD on the B500 has the ability to tilt down so you can see what you are snapping even if you are holding it above your head. I'm kind of short so I am looking forward to using this feature.

Is there any way the batteries can be charged while still in the camera or do you have to take them out to re-charge.
The batteries have to come out if you are using rechargeable ones. If you are using disposable Alkaline or Li-Ion you just swap out old batteries for new ones.

The camera is powered by 4 AA-size batteries. There is a USB cable for transferring images from the camera to a computer but that can also be done by taking the SD memory card out of the camera and plugging it into your computer or by using either the built-in WiFi or Bluetooth wireless communication function.

Can I use this monitor with a Mac Book Pro using and HDMI cable? The description says it is only compatible with Windows. Thanks
The monitor has an HDMI port so it should work with a device that has an HDMI port, but since the monitor does not have any audio capability it may not be a good choice for use with a MAC. I have an older MacBook Pro and it doesn't have an HDMI port but your newer one may be equipped with one. I'd check directly with someone in the Geek Squad at Best Buy.

Can you connect a speaker to the monitor (is there a jack for audio?)
The monitor does not have speakers built-in like some of their other models. You'll need separate speakers if you want sound.

Can this screen be a split screen?
I use it to display two windows side-by-side if that is what you are trying to do.

How far is the bottom f the monitor form the desktop
The bottom edge of the monitor is about 3-1/4" from my desktop.
