Does everything I expected/

Hadn't bought a DVD RW or CD RW in a while, was happy to see the prices available through Best Buy and made my decision to purchase easy.
The online chat (twice) gave me two answers to cables either being included or not. No cables with this drive but they are easy to find and not very expensive.

does it have software to install?
asus dvd drive24B3 ST, (sku 5109832 )does this drive has a software to instal, it stops my computer, I had to disconnect it to be able to work on my machine if not, I have to junk it a new drive that I bought about a week or so ago from bestbuy.
In the box I got an Asus disk that walked me through the installation with no problems. My computer is running Win XP Pro with all current updates installed. Walked me through with no problems.
