If you're buying just the one Chromecast Audio, they're amazing. It's wonderful and works really well.
I have a few, and am working on using them to create a Whole Home Audio experience. They work ... mostly. It's not terrible -- it's pretty good, even -- but it's not great. It's not as smooth as, say, a Sonos setup, but it's a fraction of the price.

As far as I can tell, and other reviews bear this out as well, this is the same release from a few years ago. I didn't pick that up, so I'm happy to have it, but it would have been nice to get some extra stuff, especially considering it was a re-release to push Episode VII.

Excellent streaming device

My Chromecast is one of my favorite pieces of technology. I've started purchasing media via Google in order to better use it. The fact that I can stream from dozens of applications directly to the Chromecast, including using Chrome to Google Cast a browser tab, is the best.
There are one or two apps that are not streamable, but that's only because those apps haven't gotten around to it yet. Hopefully they do soon.

I have a small Windows 8 PC that only has a miniUSB port (no standard size one). Will this drive work using a USB to miniUSB adapter?
It will likely work but it's unlikely that you'll retain USB3 speeds, I'd think. I'm not an expert, though.
