If you have not seen the Japanese version or the Yul Brenner version of this story, you might think this movie is adequate. What is new and inferior is that the desperate fight for survival by people without options has been replaced with a routine ‘bad rich corporation’ story. Coulda,shoulda been much better.

The cast is still good, the music obtrusive and fun, but the plot was not good enough for a fifth star. Groot junior and Rocket are the best elements in a busy and loud film. Pacing could improve, especially near the end.

I am quite happy with the functioning of this unit. It supports 7.2, internet activity, and it does it with about 100 watts per channel. I had a few problems with set up; mostly finding the ways to control things. The basic manual outlined the installation well, but the more advanced manual to describe things like making presets was not available. I contacted Pioneer (which did not list the manual for this unit) but they did not respond. Too bad, as the unit is quite impressive so far.

does it have phono imput
I am not a spokesman for the company, but there is no labelled phono input visible on the unit; the manual does not identify one. I see digital audio in, optical, and coax in. There is an AM-FM loop connection, video in, USB port, component video in, ethernet, HDMI jacks, RS-232, Audio in AV component, second zone outputs, and subwoofer outs on the back. The front has USB, HDMI, and aux input (I use mine for iPad podcast and music).

Soundbar?
Would pairing a sound bar render the TV speakers useless? If so, is there a set up that you can use with the TV speakers to add a sub-woofer and rear speakers?
You could add a sound bar, but generally this would degrade the output. Although we have not seen or heard it, Sony makes a subwoofer that works with the sets speakers. If you want better sound, you would need an amplifier which supports surround. If that is what you wish, then you should buy a model which does not have the side speakers.
