This came in really handy in the pump house

The Wemo switches work really great. With the bridge they also work great with Apple Homekit. I'm using it in my pump house to control a heat light for when it gets cold to keep the pump from freezing. And what is cool about this model is that not only can I tell if the light is on and turn it on from the comfort of my warm bed at night it tracks electricity usage so I can tell if the bulb is burned out or not. So no more going to the pump house to check the bulb or turn it on or off. It also has a timer so you can program it to turn on and turn off at a certain time. So this has really solved a pain point.

This thing exceeded my expectations and for what I purchased it for.
I bought it so I could copy my camera cards to the drive when they fill up and I'm not near my computer. It's got a built in SD card slot and a usb port for other devices to copy data from. I use it with my Sony XQD reader to copy my camera XQD card to it and it works just fine. Even the Sandisk XQD reader worked just fine.
Now where I was surprised and extremely pleased is that you can also use it as a router gateway for when you are in a hotel. We left for a two night stay at a hotel and I wanted to bring some movies with me so I copied them over to the drive. I preconfigured it to use my SSIDs that I use a home so all of our devices would just connect to it when we got there. So when I got to the room I pulled it out, turned on my iPad and connected through it to the hotel wifi and got it all logged in and working in about 2 minutes. Easy as pie. Then I pulled out my Sonos speaker & Apple TV and plugged them and and within 10 minutes I had music and movies working perfectly. I was able to stream the videos from my AppleTV directly from the drive. It just all worked. I use GoodPlayer on the AppleTV to play the videos directly from the drive share rather than try and install Plex which it supports. If I were going to primarily use it as a TV streaming drive I would probably try Plex. But GoodPlayer works just fine for streaming videos from the drive share so why bother just for a few movies.
I did plug the drive in to the charger and leave it there so it wouldn't power off while we were there.
I use to carry a wifi router with me to get all my devices connected to the hotel network and now all I have to carry is just this one little box and it does everything I need when traveling.
Now your milage will vary of course. I'm very technically capable so all of this was really easy for me. If you have no idea how to setup a a wifi router then what I describe may be a little challenging. But I have to say the setup of the drive is very simple and so anyone should be able to fairly easily get this thing doing whatever you want.
My only regret is that I got the 2GB drive instead of the 3GB drive.

Nice Xbox One Controller

I really like this controller. It's very flexible in it's configuration and feels solid. Certainly a BIG step up from the controllers that come with the Xbox. And I appreciate that M$ created this controller and I'm sad that Sony doesn't care enough to create a controller with similar features.
I really like the trigger stops for shooters. And the adjustable sticks. And the paddles are nice as well. It also comes with a really nice case to hold everything. You really can't go wrong with this controller if you play a lot.
It would be nice if it came with the rechargeable battery. I had to buy that extra which increased the cost. And based on the reviews I read with people having problems with it breaking just out of M$ warranty period I would recommend getting the Geek Squad warranty with it which I did just in case.

Got this for my Daughter's birthday. She really loves Minecraft and wanted it every time she saw it when we were in Best Buy. Most of the Minecraft stuff is over priced and not really worth it. But it was her birthday so why not.
She played with it the expected few hours and hasn't touched it since.
It is well made and looks nice. But my kids just don't play with things like this for very long. But I'm sure she'll pull it out from time to time.

Really like this kit

I've been looking at the Phillips Hue lights for a while, but then I was waiting for Apple HomeKit support and it got that, but I really didn't want to invest in $60 multi-color bulbs so I never got around to buying into the Hue lights. But then they released this kit with the Ambiance bulbs. These bulbs are perfect for what I wanted.
I really wanted bulbs that would cover the "white" color spectrum. What is nice is that you can turn them full up and get the daylight color which includes the blue light that you don't want at night. But then when night rolls around you can turn them over to a softer reddish color that eliminates the blue light which isn't good for when you are ready to go to sleep.
We started out putting these in the lamps by bed so at night you can have the nice reddish color that helps with sleep. And turn it down so they just glow and make for a nice night light until you are ready to turn them off. It's also great for the kids.
And the lights work so well I've started putting them everywhere in the house. I've found that they just work. And now instead of walking to the bedroom in the dark I can leave all the lights on and when I get to bed I just turn all the lights off at once from the app.
The wall switch works great as well. Very well designed. It basically only controls one "scene" but it lets you cycle through multiple brightness settings that you have configured for those bulbs. And the nice feature about it is that while it has a wall plate and you can easily mount it by the door or wherever, the actual switch is magnetic and sticks to the plate so you can just grab it on the way to bed and put it on your nightstand to control the lights at night, for instance..
I've just not had any issues with the setup and it just plain works. I've been using them for a month or so now I guess and I couldn't be happier with all my bulbs... I plan to replace all the lights in the house with them.
Oh, and give them a try with Amazon Alexa. It's so nice to just be able to tell Alexa to turn a light on when I don't have my phone handy. Alexa actually works a bit better than it does from Siri. Alexa just says OK when you tell her to turn a light on. Siri gets a bit chatty.

Do you have to use WD software to view contents or video? or can you view from web browser (like the Seagate Wireless... software optional)
No, you do not have to use the WD software or app to view the drive or play media. Once you configure the drive it will look like any shared drive would look on your network. You can connect directly to it from your computer file browser and play any video/audio files directly like you would a file stored on your computer.
I use an app on my iPhone/iPad/AppleTV called GoodPlayer and it connects directly to the file share and plays the video. You could use any app that can play a video from a windows file share.
I've actually not even used any of the WD software with it yet, including the app. I do need to try the app though...
This drive is truly a portable NAS (network attached storage) device once it's setup on your network. But it can do a whole lot more for you than just that. I am truly impressed with it. Worth every penny.

It says on the box, that it works with Apple Home Kit. Does that mean that the Apple Home Kit is required? or do I need something else like the Apple Home Kit to make it work?
No you don't have to use Apple HomeKit. All you need is something you can run the Hue app on to setup the bridge (Apple or Android device). Once the bridge is setup you can use the wall switch to control the lights or the app on your phone. If you setup HomeKit then you can tell Siri to turn lights on and off. But I find it just as easy to use the app. You can also put buttons in the notification window on the phone so you can turn lights on and off quickly and easily.
If you want voice control over the lights give Amazon Alexa a try. To me Alexa works better than Siri does right now anyway.
