The Place Beyond the Pines is one of those movies that is completely different from what the trailers lead you to believe, and I mean that in the best way possible. If you go into this movie expecting an edge of your seat crime thriller, you'll probably be disappointed. The Place Beyond the Pines is a drama about fathers and sons, and how a man's actions can have a ripple effect across generations. Despite being almost three hours long, this movie is so well-paced and yes, it does have some thrilling action scenes including some excellently-shot chase sequences. Every single actor is so on point in this movie, and I can honestly say this is one of Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper's best performances. The Place Beyond the Pines is such a beautiful and powerful movie that you would be doing yourself a disservice by not seeing it.

As soon as I saw Joss Whedon's name in the opening credits, I knew something was up. The creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly is the writer of The Cabin in the Woods, and it definitely shows. It starts out with the horror cliche of a group of teenagers going out to a remote cabin in the woods (ding!) and it almost seems like a bad rip-off of every horror movie ever until it completely flips the tables on you. I don't want to spoil how amazing this movie is, but I would strongly recommend going into it knowing as little as possible for the best experience. As a horror fan, it's hilarious to see how the movie pokes fun at all of the cliches of the genre, and I can honestly say it is one of the most refreshingly fun movies I've seen in a long time. Don't pass this one up.

Not only was The Babadook the best horror movie of 2014, it was one of the best movies to come out last year. I've read many reviews from people who did not like the movie, and the majority of them did not understand what the movie actually was. The Babadook is not the typical horror movie that studios endlessly spit out year after year; it does not rely on cheap jump scares to frighten you, and actually has good writing and direction, not to mention phenomenal acting from lead actress Essie Davis. If you go into this movie expecting the latest Insidious sequel, you might be disappointed. What The Babadook is, is a stark portrayal of grief and depression, and how they can take over a person's life and turn them into something ugly. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of horror, or movies in general. The Special Edition cover features a pop-out of The Babadook, which is cool if you don't mind spending a couple bucks more. Otherwise, the normal Blu-Ray is perfectly fine.

This game is a total improvement on Dead Island. The gameplay, especially the parkour system, is amazing and there is a huge selection of weapons. I was surprised by how long the story was, and I feel that I definitely got my money's worth. Highly recommend.

I bought this game knowing next to nothing about it and I'm glad that I did. The story in the two games is immensely entertaining and thought-provoking, definitely doing justice to the novels they are based on. The gameplay mechanics are also really fun and something I have not really seen before; ammunition you find throughout the world is used as currency, you can completely modify your weapons to your liking, and you have to frequently charge the power in your flashlight and find air filters for your gas mask to survive the harsh surface world. This adds a whole new level of terrifying immersion, and I felt like I was really struggling to survive. In addition, the graphics have been totally revamped for the PS4 and the world looks beautifully stark and depressing. If you want two great shooters for the price of one, this is the game for you!
