This is a rather smart dark comedy starring Ryan Reynolds as a socially ackward schisophenic who hears voices in the form of his pet dog and cat. The dog is supportive while the cat eggs him on to explore his dark side. The film has an absurdist tone and handles Ryan's psychological split deftly. Ryan shows us again that he's a far better comedian than an action hero.
Great effects interesting conceit about the nature of reality. Presents life at a higher level than a virtual reality game which seems to be a fad of late in pop science.
Though the monster is a popular theme in horror Babadook created a new and interesting monster using a child's bedtime story. Plenty of scares and an able cast to sell the story.
