what cable do I need to connect my external hard drive to my tv?
I have a WD My Book external drive that I would like to connect to the tv to watch movies, which cable do I need to buy? I think the hard drive needs a USB cable and the tv needs a HDMI cable...
Most modern Flat screen LCD or Plasma TVs would most likely need A USB -to-HDMI converter/cable to play Videos from an external device such as an External Hard Drive. But you will need some way of accessing the data on the Hard Drive and showing a listing or "directory" so you can select what you want to watch and to control the playback of your content. My VIZIO and Samsung LED TVs do not have a way of directly accessing the content of an external Hard Drive, so I use my LapTop PC to accomplish those tasks. You may have other devices capable of that task, such as a Desktop or Laptop PC, or possibly a NAS (Network Attached Storage device) with that capability.
But, generally speaking, playing video content on an LED TV will require some sort of device capable of accessing and controlling the media/content you want to watch and passing it to the TV via HDMI or Composite Video interface.
