Owned an Onkyo SR706 for a few years and loved it. Excellent sound quality, though it did suffer from the dreaded HDMI handshake issues. Eventually it got beyond repair so I opted for the 757. Here's the pro's vs con's:
Pros: Easy set up, remote is much more simplified than the older remotes. Receiver menu is a huge improvement over the 706. Definitely has the power to drive your set up and it has Bi-amping, which is a must for me.
Cons: The audio is good if you leave it on the default settings or adjust manually, yourself. The audio calibration software is no longer done by Audyssey, Onkyo has their own in house software and frankly, it's pretty bad. I had to shut off the calibration and go on the standard setup for better sound. Music was fine, Movies, didn't have the same punch as my 706. I ended up exchanging it for a Marantz SR5011, which I am very happy with.
