Capture stunning images with this Olympus M.Zuiko digital ED lens that features a 40-150mm focal length and an f/4.0-5.6 maximum aperture for crisp photos that are full of detail. The lens is compatible with most cameras with a Micro Four Thirds mount.

Low cost, high quality

I bought this lens to go with the Olympus Pen EP5 and am so glad I did. I usually shoot with primes but sometimes need a longer zoom when working outdoors with animals. However, I've shot with enough Canon zooms that I didn't have high expectations for a kit zoom like this. The price was excellent so I decided to give it a try, and am very pleased with the results. It shoots fast enough outdoors and zooming is a little tight but reasonably smooth. An 80-300mm lens can be quite big and bulky in the dslr world, so from a dslr user's perspective, this lens is very small and light and has great reach. Even with street shooting it isn't that much to add to the EP5 body that it becomes a distraction. People have mentioned that it's plastic but I don't find that a drawback because the build still feels solid and should hold up well so long as I don't run over it with a car tire. But the real surprise is the image quality. Except for the 70-200mm f2.8s, most longer zooms can be pretty mediocre when it comes to IQ. I find the 40-150 to be a little soft at the long end, but the details are crisp throughout most of the rest of the focal range and the color rendition is very nice. So far I haven't shot in super low light with it, but even indoors it doesn't cause the camera to hunt for the shot. This lens and the Olympus 45mm are becoming my two must-haves for dog parks and agility trials. A no-brainer, really.
What's great about it: size, weight, build quality, image quality
What's not so great: nothing, really
I would recommend this to a friend!

Outstanding Street Gear

This camera is amazing! I got tired of lugging around my dslr so I decided to try this mirrorless model. After using the EP5 for a month I think it falls between the EM5 and the M1 in features. Image quality is not comparable to full frame shooting, but is every bit as good as any APS-C body out there and is as good as the M1. I often photograph animals and it shoots fast enough to capture all the action shots I want, which surprised me. Street shooting is a joy and people aren't intimidated by the gear like they can be with a dslr. The menu system takes a little getting used to but I downloaded the manual onto my ipad and walked through the chapters and most of the camera is now familiar and even comfortable for me. The lenses for it are some of the best available, and generally at better prices than what I pay for my canon lenses. I'm really surprised at how much I like the image and build quality on this camera. Unless you're shooting short films or commercials, the movie mode is very workable and not as bad as some people make it out to be. I got mine with the 17mm lens, and also got the 25mm lumix and the 45mm Olympus prime, plus the little 40-150mm that Olympus has for a great price. That lens yields impressive results and is very light. Altogether, I have a great kit and my dslr will be collecting dust for a while. I remove the viewfinder and with the 17mm lens this little gem stays in my purse all the time now. I'm very impressed with the quality gear Olympus is creating and will stick with them for a while.
What's great about it: image and build quality, shooting speed, features
What's not so great: price, extra viewfinder, short battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!
