Warner Bros. has done right by one of its finest productions of the 1970s with this two-disc edition of All The President's Men. It offers a new anamorphically enhanced widescreen transfer that is a noticeable improvement on their past edition of this title. There's a slight bit of print damage in the materials used here, but the improved color and sharpness of the image makes up for it. In terms of audio, the disc sticks to the film's original mono soundtrack; it obviously lacks the punch of a stereo track, but it is a well-mixed track that makes effective use of sound effects. As for extras, the first disc offers a commentary track with Robert Redford that offers plenty of interesting behind-the-scenes material about his work on the film, both as a star and a producer. The first disc is rounded out by a gallery of trailers for director Alan Pakula's thrillers for Warner Bros. The second disc is devoted entirely to extras. First up is trio of new featurettes that cover the making of the film, the influence of Woodward and Bernstein's Watergate stories on journalism, and the real identity of the reporter's infamous undercover source, "Deep Throat." All three include new interviews with all the principal cast and crew, as well as Woodward and Bernstein, plus added comments from luminaries like Oliver Stone and Walter Cronkite. The second disc is rounded with a vintage making-of featurette and, more interestingly, an appearance that Jason Robards made on Dinah! in 1976.
