I bought this volume controller to go along with some speakers I installed on my patio (I installed the volume controller inside the house, not sure if its rated for outdoor use or not). It installed just like any other switch or socket, although you do need a electrical wall box in the wall to attach it to (if not you can purchase an "old-work" low voltage bracket from the hardware store and use that). So far it works well and as expected.

Good speakers, easy to install

Been wanting to install some speakers on my patio for a while, and picked these up from Magnolia/BestBuy on sale a couple months ago. They sound great and were pretty easy to install (I already had speaker wire run to the patio). It does not come with mounting hardware, so you have to pick up some screws and/or anchors from a hardware store, but the instructions does recommend what to get and how to install based on the type of wall to which you are mounting the speakers. The bracket separates from the speaker and is mounted to the wall first. The bracket is lightweight and easy to handle, so installing was a breeze. Then you attach the speakers to the bracket which was also very easy. I also like that the speakers can be tilted to optimally direct the sound.
