"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" does an even better job of balancing an emotional story with action beats than the previous movie. Both are strong, though, and big improvements over the the feeble entries in the 1970's. It helps that quality actors like Jason Clarke and Andy Serkis are leading the way.
This superhero drama follows Central City forensic scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), who is given the power to move at lightning-quick speeds after a freak accident at a particle accelerator facility. As a man who has always had a propensity for helping others and doing good deeds, Allen uses his newfound gifts to fight crime and evildoers.
My initial reactions were fairly negative, but the story picks up interest near the end of disc two. It's still a bit too teen-oriented for my taste, but the actors are decent and the visuals very nice. Good time killer at this low price.
As always, "Family Guy" makes fun of celebrities of all stripes, though there's less gratuitous humor in this season. Seth doesn't seem to be as involved anymore, which could be a good thing. Consistently entertaining and a visual delight, it's easy to recommend Season 13.

Many viewers name season 4 as the high point of "The X-Files." Still moody and atmospheric thanks to the Canadian settings, the drama engages in almost every episode. The widescreen formatting looks very natural and lends feature film scope to the show. There are really no negatives to this purchase, especially at the very reasonable price.

Stonebridge and Scott make a great buddy-buddy team, making their sometimes unbelievable antics and miracle escapes easier to digest. Nice filming that really benefits from the Blu-ray format and a few decent extras make this a fun season you will probably watch more than once..
This release features all 23 episodes from the third season of Chicago Fire, which follows the chaotic lives of Chicago firefighters and paramedics. This hit NBC drama produced by Dick Wolf stars Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney.
Season 3 is a strong one, though you'll probably be disappointed when one of the major characters exits suddenly. Good story lines and lots of intense action compensate for that, though, and make the show ideal for binge watching. The humorous featurettes are also entertaining.
This release contains every episode from the debut season of Empire about a wealthy music business owner who is diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease and must decide which of his three sons will take over when he dies.
Not a lot of depth here, just "Dallas"-level plotting and character back-stabbing. The music helps a lot, though, making the show very addictive. The Blu-ray format gives it an extra visual pop that adds to the fun.
This set contains every episode from the fourth season of the critically-respected series Homeland, starring Claire Danes as a self-destructive CIA station chief fighting terrorism in Kabul, Afghanistan.
I wasn't all that impressed with season three, but this one finds the show in good form. Lots of intrigue mixed with subtle commentary on current issues here and abroad. The transfers are fine, the extras so-so, but still a good buy for fans.
