There is not an expected date, as they tend to appear sporadically and catch people off guard. However, you can expect that there will be more coming by December. If your boyfriend's birthday is before then, I wouldn't count on having much opportunity to grab one.

Best Buy does not offer raincheck, but it is expected that Best Buy will get more in stock closer to December.
