I bought this in order to recover an old laptop hard drive. I was able to install and setup the device in less than 5 minutes which is great for novices. The hard drive enclosure worked well enough for me to remove various viruses and trojans and eventually i was able to restore my os on this drive. The enclosure is more suited as a backup device but worked for my purpose.

What's not so great: a little pricey

took harddrive from broken ps3 that wont turn on i want to save everything from that harddrive to the new one i do not want to format it thats why i

bought this device is there anything i can do to get the information out of it
The only way i know is to plug in the drive and listen to it to determine if the drive is still spinning and powering up. If so you should be able to retrieve the information.

compatible with computer containing IDE drive?

My computer contains an IDE (PATA) drive (WIN XP OS). Will this enclosure containing a SATA drive work through the USB cable with my computer as an external storage device?
Yes it will. I have the same setup win xp w/pata internal hard drive.
