This release collects every episode from the first season of the series about Cambridgeshire clergyman Sidney Chambers (James Norton) who solves mysteries in his small village of Grantchester.
Era - post WWII. Vicar who served is slightly flawed, friends with the local DCI and in love with the woman he can't have. Draws you in and keeps your interest in the story.
Dozens of series out there about Henry VIII. This is another version, focused on the rise of Thomas Cromwell during the time of Ann Boleyn. Understated performance by Mark Rylance as Cromwell. My only complaint is that I wish the series would continue on.
Frank Pierson's historical docudrama Conspiracy comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.85:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while French and Spanish soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Subtitles are accessible in all three of those languages. Supplemental materials include a commentary recorded by the director, biographies of the cast, and a pair of featurettes. This is a great release from HBO/Rysher.
Stellar cast, well written with sharp execution. It is the story of the Wannsee Conference, where plans for the 'Final Solution' were discussed. Kenneth Branaugh is at once charming, manipulative and evil as Heydrich. Stanley Tucci chilling as Eichmann. A must see for history buffs.
WWII was a horrible time. This is a story of a middle-age couple who opened their home to a refugee child and a Jew. It chronicles the bonds that grow over a span of years between the couple and their adopted child. It is a story of hope, compassion, friendship and love. The cast is brilliant and understated.
