I was upgrading my disks, so I needed an external SATA/USB adapter; I couldn't find my older one. I've seen faster ones than this, but it was fast enough, and I was able to get it at the local Best Buy when I needed it. It got the data transferred.

I prefer Linux, but this does work well, and integrates better with things i have to do at work. Plus it's faster than my work laptop, so I tend to do a lot of my dev work on it, then copy it to the work machine.

There are probably better choices around, but this one was available (though not at the closest store) the day I wanted it. It lets me connect the external things I need (time machine drive, external keyboard, traceball, etc.) I haven't used ethernet or high speed USB devices yet, so I can't comment on that.
