Bought as a replacement for a 5yr old router that had seen its time and wanted to upgrade. Works well so far, only issue is that laptops will occasionally get dropped from the network for no reason. This doesn't happen with any other wireless enabled tech I own, oddly enough.

No. This is not a laptop for gaming. It's not powerful enough. Buy an actual gaming laptop or get a desktop instead.

Is this laptop good for games like MW2 and Garry's mod
Do not recommend this computer for gaming of any kind. You'd be much better off investing in an actual gaming laptop or a decent desktop. The processor bogs down very quickly and makes game play incredibly frustrating.
