I love this album! I've followed Andrew McMahon from SoCo to Jack's Mannequin to his previous solo work and now to In the Wilderness. This album is great. Exactly what you'd expect from AM: heartfelt lyrics, great grooves and music. Only song I can't stand is See Her On the Weekend. Overall an excellent album from a veteran musician.
This album really had to grow on me. It's different from previous Gaslight albums yet, somehow, also too similar to past albums. It's a good, not great, but solid effort from this amazing band.
From the nearly 7 minute opening song, to the "El Camino"-sounding closer, there's little to complain about. More akin to the Black Keys 2010 album "Brothers" than the arena-rock of 2011's "El Camino." Superb artistry and guitar skills abound when the Keys "Turn Blue." It may not be their best album, but even when the Black Keys are experimenting they still know how to make an engaging record.
