The Apple Fanboy Jumped Ship
on August 5, 2016

I've been an Apple Fanboy since 1989 and I've purchased for the most part exclusively Apple products, including the Airport Extreme & Airport Express base stations, which I use to blanket my entire 4 story townhouse with WiFi connection. In total I use 5 and the higher you move up the house, the worse the connection gets, even just on the second floor, the WiFi connection drops. Some of the routers would just randomly disconnect and I have to power cycle to get them back online. It's been frustrating!
Well out with the old and in with the new and this is where eero comes into the picture. The price is steep, but what you get is a reliable connection, easy to set-up and fast & steady connection. I have Verizon FiOS as my ISP and TV provider, and with my AirPort connection, I've changed the settings on the FiOS router to allow the AirPort Base Station to control and assign the IP addresses. I was worried that eero wasn't gonna work with how I programmed the Verizon router, but it worked perfectly. eero found the network after one failed attempt (I think the Verizon router hasn't power cycled completely yet). Once the first eero router found the network, the remaining two eero routers were easy to connect through the eero iOS app. It's truly plug and play and the instructions on the app was so easy to set-up that it's practically foolproof. It also allows you to set-up a guest network with a separate password. I do miss the option on the Apple routers to make the network invisible just for added security.
The first eero router is on the ground floor aka the Man Cave, the second router was placed in the living room on the second floor, the third was placed on the fourth floor in the master bedroom. I was worried that the last one wouldn't connect because of the distance but the eero network found it instantly. For optimal placement eero recommends that the routers are within 40 feet of each other and preferably at line-of-sight.
The app lets you check your connection speed and on the fourth floor, it maintained the speed of what I'm paying my ISP provider. No more dead zones for me!
To recap... if you're experiencing WiFi issues at your home because of dead zones, buffering, router issues, give eero a try. Yes the price is steep but what you get in return is a reliable WiFi connection without the hassle.

Full of Tech Sphygmomanometer

I've had a solid month of use before reviewing this product and I am very pleased with my purchase. I was actually surprised that for the first time, Best Buy's price was actually cheaper than Amazon's!
This sphygmomanometer fits comfortably around your wrist/forearm area. It has to be positioned about an inch below where the hand and forearm meet to get an accurate reading. The strap is adjustable to fit various forearm sizes and it is securely latched on via velcro straps. The design is very minimalistic, looks like the same material as a white iPod. With a Start/Stop button on top, and a mini usb port at the bottom to be used to recharge the unit.
The BP cuff must be fully charged before it is first used. It does come with the mini usb charging cable. When it is plugged in, there is a green square outline that flashes intermittently. Once it stops flashing and you see a solid green square outline, it means that it is fully charged and ready for use. In addition, you must first download the iHealth app (in my case, from the App Store). This cuff cannot be used without a smartphone.
Everything is controlled via the application. Once you strap the cuff onto your forearm, it triggers a button underneath the white part of the cuff to link via bluetooth to the phone. During the first reading, it will ask which arm you would normally take your readings. You press the test button and the application makes sure that your arm is in the correct level, as the same plane as your heart. Once you're in the right range, you press the start button. Make sure that the strap in snug and not loose to get an accurate reading.
Once the reading is complete, the blood pressure result is clearly indicated with big numbers. The heart rate is also measured. There is a bar to the left side which shows the range of blood pressure readings. It is a color gradient similar to a traffic light: Three hues of green from dark to light, then a golden yellow, orange, and red. The readings are based on WHO (World Health Organization) BP classifications. So it's best to stay in the green hues. There is a space at the bottom to write your own notes about the reading, which is helpful if your readings are higher than normal because you can indicate the reason (like if you're stressed).
The sub menus has graphs, trends. You can create a profile, input your weight, set multiple alarms for notification (i.e. like when to take your antihypertensive meds). What's neat is that it keeps a permanent record of your reading via phone and through your account online. The readings can be easily emailed to your physician along with several graphs.
The only caveat is that everything is controlled from the smartphone. It can't be used by itself to start a reading. The cuff itself doesn't record any readings. The start/stop button on the cuff is only used to fire up the bluetooth connection to your phone.
The cuff is very compact and comes with a carrying case. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and I would recommend this machine to anyone who has a smartphone and needs to keep a record of their blood pressure readings on a regular basis.

It fits a lot!

I received my brand new fridge yesterday and I'm very happy with the product. I upgraded from an 8 year old 21 cu ft. GE that has the typical freezer on top, fridge at the bottom. French door style refrigerators are a must because you see things at eye level. I can actually easily find what I need without having to bend over.
First of all, I would like to thank the two delivery guys that set-up the fridge. They had to climb up a staircase that has a 90 degree bend. The two were equipped to remove the three doors so that it could be maneuvered more easily.
The refrigerator compartment is massive. After loading all of my stuff from the old fridge, I actually had a lot more space to play with (making me head out to the grocery store to buy more food). I love the fact that the ice maker is on the door rather than being on the top shelf which takes up a lot of space. LED lights are nice a bright with even illumination. It has a built in deodorizer that LG calls Fresh Air Filter. It will force fresh air in when needed and it will remove odors as well. The filter itself has carbon in it and it's rated to last six months. My problem however is trying to find the part/accessory number to order more. Unfortunately LG representatives have no idea that an air filter even exists as they kept giving me the water filter cartridge replacement part. Hopefully they'll be able to sort this out.
The filtered water tasted great... no funny odors noticed. It must be primed every time a new cartridge is put it. So a total of 2.5 gallons of water must be cleared first before you can have your first drink.
The freezer compartment is huge. It has a total of three tiers, two of which slide backward and forward. The unit comes with an ice cube tray so that you can store more ice cubes when you need it.
The ice maker takes a good 24 hours before it first starts to produce ice and the first batches also need to be disposed of to clear the system. I like the fact that the ice cubes are smaller than the standard ice cubes from most refrigerators.
On the exterior, the front is a glossy smooth black which does show fingerprints but it's not a concern because if you're like me, it's already covered with magnets, menus, and a white erase board. The hinges are hidden with gives the unit a slick and clean design.
Overall, I'm very please with my purchase and it was about time that I upgraded to a new refrigerator. The ergonomics, the use of space, placement of the ice maker, and the Fresh Air filter are the selling points of this LG product. Oh and before I forget, did I mention it's 31 cu feet? It does fit a lot of food!
What's great about it: Cavernous space, location of the ice maker, air filter.
What's not so great: Fingerprints, availability of replacement air filter cartridge.
