I'm a big Maxwell fan. I've been there from moment one. I have to be 100% honest, it's not his best yet and it's not his worse either. There are only 6 out of 11 songs I can say are okay. My most favorite of those is Lake By the Ocean. All I can say is blackSummer'snight isn't as good as it predecessor Blacksummer'snight. Maybe watching him performing some of these songs will nudge me into enjoying the album a bit more.
The directorial debut of the musician Prince, Under the Cherry Moon, debuts on DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The film's black-and-white cinematography is presented quite well. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include four music videos from Prince and the films' theatrical trailer.
I had never seen this prior to purchasing it so I didn't know what to expect. Prince and his side-kick, Jerome Benton are pretty funny. The storyline is based on a poor little rich girl scenario. Cute story but don't expect Purple Rain part two.
The film that helped establish Prince's public persona comes to DVD with this lackluster release from Warner Bros. The transfer is a standard, full-frame 1.33:1 image. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a French soundtrack is recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include production notes and theatrical trailers. The best aspect of this disc is the sound, which was also the best aspect of the movie. Considering Prince's stature as one of the superstars of the last 20 years, one wonders if a special edition release of this film on DVD might be in the works.
Although it was his first movie, Prince's acting skills were a little rough around the edges at times. Overall, the movie was great. It has you rocking in your seat with some great music. Got it at great price, too. Prince oozes charisma in this and you just can take your eyes off him. He is greatly missed.
The movie itself may have been made dark but Prince lightens it up with his funk signature. Most people remember the song Batdance which was a pop hit back in the day. But the real classic gems for me are Scandalous, The Future, and Partyman. In a nutshell, put it in and press play and turn it up!
I looked high and low for this cd and was pleased to finally get it. Silk stayed in their lane on this cd. It's basically about finding love, treating love, loving love, disrespecting love, saying sorry to love, and winning love back again. The album is not as good as their former album Tonight but it's good enough for this fan.
Once I heard Silk was coming out with a new album, I jumped at the chance to pre-order it! I had to admit once I got it, I was a little apprehensive about it because they hadn't released anything in years. But the moment I played it, I was hooked!!! One of the best come back cd's I've heard in long while. There is no cherry-picking a particular song and leaving rest alone. I do have one little complaint about the post-production. The sound could stand to be broader. Outside of that, this is on repeat in the car, at home, or where ever.
I never would have thought that buying this cd 13 days later Prince would have passed away. I'm still in shock. However, I am so glad to own one of his many classic albums. 1999 is definitely a collectors item. Most everyone knows Little Red Corvette, 1999 and Delirious, but the song D.M.S.R. sums it all up. I recommend this to those who just want to understand why Prince fans refer to him as a musical genius. In short, 1999 is one of those albums that is always on repeat. RIP Prince.
