This is a terrific battery backup for networking and other equipment. I purchased and installed this after a for APC failed following it's 15th birthday. The new APC is smaller than the 1200 I formerly owned. During a recent power outage, it powered my router, DSL modem, switch, and a RasberryPi for longer than the local internet provider's own backup power. I was able to continue to use the Internet service until the service provider's service dropped. My only complaint is that many network power supply plugs are turned 90 degrees to all for space on a straight strip. This APC also turned the plugs 90 degrees which means not much can fit.
Be aware there is a similar version to this unit that does not come with a USB plug. I purchased the version with USB.

Worthwhile if you need a dock

It's a little on the expensive side. However, it beats having a separate USB3 dock and power. All it takes is one cable connecting to the power port.
The block versus a slide in dock should make it useable in future models unless they change the charging port. Microsoft can change the size, shape, and form but keep the same dock. Hopefully, they will stick to a compatible charging port.
The connecting cable could stand being a little longer for my particular use, but otherwise it's not bad. It has all the ports I need.

Brilliant piece of work

The new Surface 4 Type Cover is a subtle, but vast improvement over earlier generations. The keyboard is just plain laid out better. The size has not changed but the use of space is much improved. The keys are spaced out a little more, raised slightly, and have better feedback than earlier type models. The mouse pad is now glass and increased in size. It is more responsive. No longer will you have to worry about having enough space to drag and drop.
I highly recommend getting the new type cover even if you are upgrading your surface and are thinking to reuse an old cover.

The new Surface Pro 4 is simply brilliant. I was an early adopter of the original Surface Pro. Microsoft has fixed all the issues I had with the original Pro now in the Pro 4.
The screen is both the perfect size and beautiful to look at. It's big enough that I can see what I'm working with but not too large to fit in my hand or my bag. The pen is also a huge improvement. It's much more substantial, writes easy, and is actually useful now - especially the eraser. The screen is much more precise with Pen input.
The i5 with 8GB RAM is very quick and performs great. It looks very polished and is easier to hold than the earlier generations. I love that the screen size was increased without increasing the overall size of the unit. The battery life is a huge improvement over the original. The power connector is now easy to insert and stays. It would be nice to have more battery life, but I'm not going to complain too much considering the CPU performance increased without forcing a larger battery/unit.
Windows Hello makes logging in as easy as smiling and the screen. I love it.
Definitely get the new generation type cover even if you are upgrading.

How long would this power about 10-15 strands of Xmas lights?
It depends on the power draw of the lights (LED vs Incandescent). I can share that the unit remained up and operational for over 1 hour with a router, modem, and switch connected. Funny, I had not thought Christmas lights important enough to have battery backup. If you're thinking to charge it and then run the lights unplugged, outdoors on battery, then be careful. This unit is not meant to be outside.

Does the surface pro 4 have built in LTE broadband support?
Can I add cellular service or chip to the surface pro 4 to have cellular web browsing?
No LTE yet.
