IMHO, Apple blew it by not offering 4K compatibility. The only reason my clients buy these is because they are trapped in the Apple ecosystem.
FireTV & Roku both offer 4K compatibility and programming. Surely Apple could have done this too, but, just like being late to the game to support 1080P HDTV, they are once again behind in technology.

Improvements, but what about 4K?

Apple seems to always lag behind on resolutions with the AppleTV. They took forever to adopt 1080P and now are being left behind by Amazon and Roku with 4K Ultra HD.
If it weren't for Apple loyal customers that I install these for, I wouldn't purchase, however, IF you are an Apple person, it is still a good solid piece.

Great Cinematography & Audio

The movie isn't for everyone due to the graphic scenes, however, I understand why it won an Oscar for its filming....quite incredible. If you get the opportunity to watch on a quality home theater you are really drawn into the film. The audio is top notch also.
I am not sure that this is the film that I would have given the Oscar to DiCaprio as he didn't have to act much, but, he probably deserved it for others that he didn't get it so it all washes out!

A Good Product with Some Limitations

We have used several brands of video doorbells through the years, including dedicated, proprietary hardwired units, but for this review I will address only ones that I feel are competitive with Ring.
IMHO, its main competitor is the SkyBell HD as they are similar priced and have similar capabilities. The yet-to-be-released August Doorbell should also be a consideration once it ships (if ever, as it is waaay delayed!).
The Ring has an edge over the SkyBell in installation flexibility (can run on batteries), more setup customization and better Customer Service.
SkyBell advanatages are "video monitoring" (see below), FREE cloud recording and action based integration.
SkyBell's video monitoring feature is a big plus and one that Ring has promised is "Coming Soon" for over a year now. This allows you to press button in the app and see a real-time video image. Why is this important? If you miss the notification response window and want to see who it was, OR if you know workers are supposed to be there and you want to check up on them, OR if you hear a noise but the motion detection hasn't picked up anything and turned the camera on, etc.
So, which would I recommend?
If you have no preference on aesthetics or any physical restrictions, they both are good alternatives so you will need to look at their differences to help you decide. If "on demand" viewing and FREE cloud viewing is important to you, choose SkyBell. If you don't have the necessary wiring for SkyBell and need a battery powered model, then Ring is your only choice.

Hardware wise neither the Ring or SkyBell compare to the DoorBird (more expensive, but, you get what you paid for). The German quality is obvious at first touch.
Even though it is 720p like Ring vs 1080p on the SkyBell, due to its lens quality and size, it offers the best picture of the three. It also has the best audio (same reasons) available and its motion detection is flawless. The app could use some work as it isn't as polished as Ring or SkyBell.
DoorBird also offers a POE connection for those fortunate enough to have a network wire at their door. There are terminals to connect to an existing door chime or door opener (it can even trigger your garage door to let people in) and seems to have a lot of integration partners.
Doorbot also offers a flush mount version and a full stainless steel surface mount version (front plate and box), but they go even higher in price.
One thing to keep in mind on ALL THREE of these is that their functionality is dependent on their apps & servers. If the company bails, your investment is gone. Ring is the #1 seller in the US. DoorBird is the #1 seller in Europe. SkyBell's first two efforts were less than stellar. Their never HD model seems to have corrected all of the complaints and added missing features.
There are a lot of angry posts about Doorbot and the product never working as promised. Ring IS Doorbot so they have a past. Many claim that they never took care of their issues while other say that they were fairly treated with free or discounted product. YMMV.

As with most of the steaming devices, this is a smoother and better experience than most of the smart TV internal apps. At $64.95 this is a great deal. I prefer it over the newer version because you can use IP drivers with home automation systems and they don't allow that on the new ones...only IR control from external control systems.
I can't give it 5 stars because I have used a lot of these and, although they are great when they are working, they can often require a reboot and have some occasional networking issues. Typical Apple, you get very little feedback when there is an issues....just their stupid spinning wheel. Not an issue for me as I have other resources, but very frustrating for my clients.

Good Quality & a Problem Solver

Sanus makes great products. My company has used them and Chief for years (now the same company, but still different product lines). They often cost a bit more than some copycat competitors, but, I have never had issues with them so it is worth it to me.
Being in the industry, we normally purchase direct or through a local distributor, but we were in a bind and needed it immediately. Best Buy to the rescue!
This mount was chosen because it has both a top and bottom rails allowing two lag bolts to be placed in the same stud. When walls were not properly supported and/or have improper stud spacing, the single rails do not allow enough bolts for my comfort levels.

The classiest looking case I found!

We looked at all of the cases Best Buy offered and chose the Apple Leather one simply because of its aesthetics. We are using the iPad Airs for presentation of luxury products and it simply didn't make any sense to put a cheap looking or poor fitting cover on it.
The main complaint is when using it as a stand for presentations as it is a little awkward until you get used to it and it doesn't lock in place like their older models so it can fall if you don't have a delicate touch.
The price was 30% higher than the next most expensive, but, since we deal in an industry where professionalism is important, it was a no brainer.

What's not so great: The "stand" function is a lttle awkward and it IS expensive!

What additional equip is required to receive 4K UHD with Sony's XBR43X800D with Directv standard equip box?
This, and all consumer 4K UHDTVs are fully backward compatible with 1080P HDTV which is the maximum output that standard DirecTV boxes output. To receive 4K, you will have to have their newest Genie receiver, the HR54. Depending on your 4K TV, you MAY need a C61K, and, of course you must purchase their 4K programming.
