Do not believe what they tell you. You DO NOT need to purchase a 35 - 50 dollar cable to watch your HDTV. This cable produced the same picture as the high end cables. And yes, I have a 3D TV and the picture was fine.

Does it need any other cables other than the optical one it comes with?
Yes, HDMI cables, if you want to run a Blu-ray player or Dish through it then to the TV. The picture quality does not lose any of its quality.

What other wireless speakers (rear or side) can I connect this with?
You can not add any other speakers to this sound bar. If you want more speakers go buy a 5.1 surround sound receiver with some speakers. That's basically what you are asking.
