GI Joe With An Interesting Premise
on November 26, 2016

GI Joe Renegades was a show that ran briefly back in 2011-2012 on the HUB network. It featured notable talents such as Lee Majors, Clancy Brown and Michael Emerson.
The packaging states that this blu ray is the "Complete First Season". In actuality, it only aired for one season so this product should be considered the complete series.
The show's premise offered an A-Team style of plot-lines. Characters that are familiar to the fans of the GI Joe stories in the '80's such as Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, etc. are accused of a crime they didn't commit and are on the run from government authorities led by familiar characters from COBRA such as Baroness, Destro and of course, Cobra Commander. Each week they provide assistance to those in need in the hopes that everyone will realize that COBRA is not the friend to the world they portray themselves as in media outlets.
On to my review of the product itself. Equipment used to view the series was a Samsung HDTV, Sony Blu-Ray player, and 6.1 Sony Home Theater surround sound.
The animation looks crystal clear on this blu-ray, although I have to admit I'm not crazy about the style but that's purely a matter of taste. The DTS-HD sound matrix also adds better sound than when the series was being broadcast so that was a welcome bonus.
The packaging itself is good. All discs are held securely in the case.
Special features are a bit lacking in my opinion. There was only a behind the scenes featurette and commentaries.
If you're a GI Joe fan, I think you'll like this series so I would encourage you to give it a try. I think it offers a good twist on the GI Joe universe.

Excellent Addition To Any Action Lover's Library
on February 10, 2008

This was a surprisingly good film. I was a bit leery initially about this movie considering the subject material was based on a line of children's toys from the '80's. However, I was gladly mistaken in my initial mis-givings about it.
I was impressed at how well the special effects came out. The robots all looked very realistic in all their appearances transforming from vehicles to robots and back to vehicles. Also the battles between the robots were very well executed.
The audio is also noteworthy in this movie. The 5.1 audio came through very well on this particular DVD with plenty of usage on all speaker channels. This disc is an excellent selection to demo a home theater setup with.
I don't feel there's really any need to review the film's story. It's pretty unbelievable in many areas but that's par for the course with action movies of this variety.
All in all, this is one to get for your library. You won't be disappointed with it in the slightest.
What's great about it: Lots of action, excellent picture, good movie to demo good home theater systems
What's not so great: Subject material may make some leery as it's based on a kid's toy from the '80's
I would recommend this to a friend!
