Nice responsive screen with some quirky navigation
on June 23, 2022
Posted by: jago
The TomTom Go Discover has a 7” touch screen and many features. There is a companion app called MyDrive that you can download and use to set up trips, places, and plan routes ahead of time. The device, in my opinion, takes a long time to boot up from a cold start, but there is a sleep option that will let it boot up much faster and once it does boot up, it gets the GPS signal quickly. However, in order to use this to the full extent of the features, such as traffic alert (1 year free then subscription needed) and gas prices (same subscription model) then you have to link it to Wi-Fi on your phone or your car via a hotspot. At least you have a full year to try out those features to see if you want to keep them or not. I do wish there was a dash mount included in this model or at least a disk that you could use the window mount on for a dash option. I have a Honda ridgeline and the slope of the windshield does not make mounting this way a good option for my taste. I am currently on a trip as I write this from Northern Nevada to Southern California and around my area, the navigation works great, but here in So. Cal, with the number of freeways there are, it can be confusing. For example, heading south on the 22 FWY, we had to make a change onto the I-5 and our I found the TomTom did not give us enough notice that our turn was coming up, the 22 FWY was slightly turning to the right and the TomTom told us to keep right, but there was no other option since that was the way the freeway was built anyway. As it turned out, our Exit was right after that turn right and we only had ¼ mile to make the move from three lanes over. I feel TomTom has some work to do on this sort of thing. I don’t recall my Waze doing that at all.
Battery life has been good, and I have noticed that it will last about 3 hours with the screen on the whole time. Navigation volume has been good as well, but I wish there was a way to tie it into your BT of your car. Overall, it’s a decent unit but I probably would not recommend it to friends unless the mounting situation worked for them, and they were ok with a subscription model after a year.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Small, fast, and secure
on May 30, 2022
Posted by: jago
One Terabyte of space in a small, rubberized, secure form factor is just a few things that make this Samsung 1TB T7 Shield External SSD drive a very handy device to have around. It has a USB 3.2 interface which provides plenty of speed and performance for most applications and transfer speeds in my opinion. There may be faster drives out there, but this is decent one none the less. In the box you are given two USB cables, one is a type C to C and the other is a Type A to C. The enclosure itself can protect your delicate data from dust and water with an IP65 rating and is rated to survive a 9.8-foot drop, which I did not test out myself, but it’s nice to know that if I do drop it, I will most likely be ok. The Samsung software installed on the drive will allow you to set up encryption on it as well so you can lock the data down and someone that does not know the password will not be able to access it easily. So if you are looking for a way to carry around sensitive or personal data, look at the Samsung T7.

Fun LED strip light for sure.
on May 30, 2022
Posted by: jago
The Govee Wi-Fi LED strip light is a great way to light up a room and make things fun. This 24.6 ft. strip has an adhesive backing that makes installation a breeze, but it also includes additional clips and screws for more advanced installs. You can easily control the lights with the three-button control box that is attached to a short cable to the end of the strip. One button is the power button, the other can cycle thru solid colors and the third will make the lights dance. The Govee Home app has a ton of features and configurations that you can play with. You can customize you own way or play around in the Effects lab. You are sure to find something that you like. The light strip itself can be set to full brightness 100% or all the way down to 1%, which is still pretty bright in a dark room. Amazon Alexa or Google can be set up to control them with some basic functionality as well. There are simply way too many features in the app that a review like this can cover, and I enjoyed playing around with many different things in the app with my daughters. All in all, these are a fun way to spruce up a room and make things fun.

The Swann Professional 6K NVR Security System has crime-fighting features other security systems dream about, with deterrence and prevention at its core. The patented SwannForce technology responds when the cameras sense heat and motion to trigger red and blue flashing lights, spotlights, sirens, mobile alerts and more. This professional wired surveillance system features 6K or 12MP Mega HD video which has 50% more pixels than 4K from a 6mm camera lens showing a 65° field of view. This helps capture details like never before, and this evidence can make a huge impact when dealing with criminal activity. Plus there’s color night vision, two-way talk, Face Recognition, Person & Vehicle Detection, free recording and more. With PoE (Power over Ethernet) connections; power, video and audio run through a single Ethernet cable per camera, making installation simple. You’ll enjoy maximum reliability without the concerns of Wi-Fi connection drop interruptions, wireless static or bandwidth limitations. The cameras are sturdy yet lightweight, and they’re built for use indoors and outdoors. They can be the right mix of an overt security presence and discretion where required. Face Recognition can be set up simply to identify familiar faces and send personalized alerts when they are detected. Be notified when your child arrives home from school, when your cleaner has left for the day, when your employee has opened your business. There’s also Person & Vehicle Detection, and more Smart Video Analytics for accurate alerts. Everything is viewable on the Swann Security mobile app! View live video, receive alerts, turn the lights and siren on and off, change motion and heat sensitivity and more. You can also ‘speak to see’ with Alexa and Hey Google. Record video to the large hard drive and save footage to your Dropbox in the cloud. That’s the Professional 6K NVR Security System – Swann’s most advanced surveillance and crime prevention system.

PoE system with tons of features
on May 23, 2022
Posted by: jago
The Swann Pro Enforcer 4K NVR system is a great Ethernet wired system that does take some time to set up by the way of running Ethernet wires (included) to the desired locations. The benefit of wired systems is not having to deal with dead batteries, lag is usually minimized, and constant monitoring so you never miss any action. Using a system like this has great potential with the fact that you can add an additional 4 cameras to bring the total to 8. 4 are included and each camera has the ability for two-way communication, spotlight, up to 4K resolution, loud siren, and the red and blue flashing lights which is the Enforcer part of the name.
To set up the system was easy and straight forward, included documentation will walk you thru the process. Just remember that these cameras will require the installation of an Ethernet cable and depending on your layout, you may need a professional to run the cables. Data and power are provided via the Ethernet in what is called PoE, Power over Ethernet.
Video quality is fantastic and looks amazing on my 4k LG TV that I have set up to view the feed. The Swann software is full featured, and you can definitely dive into it and customize your system with the right schedule, motion detection, IR detection, notifications, and other settings to suit your needs. The Swann app has been fantastic as well, viewing on the app I have noticed minimal lag when I am out and about, and it is easy to find your way around. The 4TB drive is massive and you can store plenty of video files on there.
My opinion of this basically comes down to this, the system is costly, but the reliability of a wired system is better than a wireless one. The spotlight is not that bright, and the two-way communication is a tad bit low. However, the spotlight and two-way communication are two features that I have not really used or cared about on previous systems.

Beautiful, solid built, laptop

The Asus Zenbook is a compact and lightweight OLED laptop with a 14” colorful screen. This has many features that I was looking for in a form factor such as this. Long battery life, great bright screen, Intel processor, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, backlit keys, and a bonus that I wasn’t aware that I needed, but the 10-key functionality that the trackpad can replicate. I have never seen this last feature on such a device before and I have to say that it is my favorite thing about this laptop. I use it constantly and I hope it is a feature that makes its way on more devices.
Specs: the CPU is a 12th Gen Intel i5 processor, the RAM is soldered on, which is a bummer. It does have Wi-Fi 6E, upgradeable M.2 SSD (256GB included). A 14” 2880x1800 2.8K 16:10 OLED screen with an incredibly fast .2ms response time and 400-600 nits brightness. Included ports include a USB type A 3.2 Gen 2, microSD card reader, 2 USB type C ports (data, display out, charging), 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack, HDMI 2.0, and 720p camera. These are great specs all wrapped up in a 3.1 lbs. package.
Daily use: I have been very happy with the everyday performance of this laptop. It’s very portable and the multimode backlit keyboard works great and is very comfortable to type on with good travel. One handed opening of the display is a very welcome addition as well. The power button also serves as the fingerprint reader and is very reliable and it will cache the fingerprint as you power it on and logs you directly into windows with windows hello. Unfortunately, the camera doesn’t appear to be windows hello compatible at this time. Microsoft office products run great and have not had any issues with them. Web browsing has been a great experience as well and running videos via NetFlix, Disney+ and Hulu apps have been butter smooth as well. At times during intensive processor use, the single fan will spin up and become more noticeable, but not bad.
Overall, this laptop has great specs, build quality at a great price. My only gripe with this laptop is the soldered-on RAM. Everything else is a great laptop for a non-gamer and someone who is looking for a portable, powerful, and long lasting computer.

Nice additional tool to keep your mouth clean
on April 21, 2022
Posted by: jago
from Sparks, NV
This is the first time that I have owned a device like this, and I usually just floss with normal floss. I read the instructions and set up the device, and that part was easy. There are three different attachment heads that you are given, standard, comfort, and a quad stream nozzle. I prefer the comfort nozzle attachment for use on my sensitive gums. There are a few different modes such as clean, deep clean, sensitive, and massage. Along with those different modes, you can adjust the intensity settings as well. In short, between all of the different nozzles, modes and intensity settings, you are sure to find the right fit for you. I was able to find my prefect setting after a few days and it did take some trial and error. Getting used to the water shooting in your mouth takes a little getting used to and at first it can feel a little strange. Using the wand is easy and one of my favorite features is how well the cord winds itself back into it’s circular cubby, and the magnetic dock works well to hold the wand in place. Using this only to remove stuck food particles between your teeth works pretty well, however, I did come across some pieces of food that would not come out, so I had to break out the old string floss. I think this is a good tool to use daily, but once in a while you may need to use some better tools to remove something that won’t come out with water alone.

Latest and greatest, but at a price
on February 22, 2022
Posted by: jago
The Orbi Wi-Fi mesh system has always been my favorite of the systems that I have used in the past. I had the original Orbi system, and I loved and when I replaced it with another brand, I was never as happy. There were always little things that bugged me and now I can happily say that I have been given the opportunity to use the Orbi system once again. This system is very expensive and if you are looking for the latest and greatest that you can get, this is the one for sure, however, there are a few things to consider if you choose this system.
The biggest disappointment with this system is that most of the advanced features are trial only and then you must pay for them. Security and parental controls are separate and cost extra. Tech support is free, but only until the 90-day mark, then you must fork out cash. You are given a full year hardware warranty, but if you need technical support, well….
The Orbi app has been good enough for me. I have not had any errors or problems with it. Setting up the devices was as simple as can be (or perhaps I have done this a few times to its easy now), but I removed my old mesh system, launched the app, and plugged in the Orbi’s as the app instructed me to. It walked me thru the entire process and after it was all said and done, about 30 minutes had passed by and my new system was up and running. I used my identical SSID and Passkey so every one of my (75) devices were able to easily connect without any intervention. My wife and kids did not even notice. They did notice the new Orbi’s and commented on how big and good looking they were though, so they are rather large, but they do look stylish. Each device has 4 Ethernet ports on them, with one being a 2.5GB connection and the Router has a 10GB uplink. My home connection is no where near that speed, but someday it could be and its nice to have that if needed. Back to the Orbi app, there is one of my favorite features, you can set up a separate IoT network for those devices that may not be able to use the 5GhZ network or if they can only do WPA/WPA2 security. Before this, I had to create a separate network using a different router for this purpose. Now I can retire that router and just use the Orbi system to accomplish the same thing. It is a good idea to segment out your IoT devices since security on them may not be as strong as you expect and may allow a way in for attackers. The rest of the settings and configurations found in the app are pretty much standard that you can find in most quality systems.
Speed wise, these have had no problems keeping up with my demanding household. As I mentioned earlier, we have over 75 connected devices and the majority of them are connected nearly all the time. My speed tests have been what my advertised speeds from my cable company are and we have been very happy. The Orbi satellites have not dropped connections to each other, and they have provided a nice blanket of coverage that encompasses my house and front and back yard. If you are looking for a top of the line Wi-Fi mesh system and have the extra money, then I highly recommend you get these units, if not, then Orbi does make some less expensive models that are not the latest and greatest, but they work pretty darn well also.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Some flaws, but over all a good wheel
on January 27, 2022
Posted by: jago
from Sparks, NV
This seems like a great entry level force feedback steering wheel for those casual gamers that may want to dip their toes in the steering wheel arena, but be warned, that you can easily spend many thousands of dollars creating a full simulator. For me, this steering wheel is just what I was looking for. It is packed with features, and I think for the price they should have added more, but if you can catch this while on sale, it would be a steal. At first, I wasn’t in love with the layout and design of the buttons and controls, but after some use, they have grown on me, and I now find them easy and intuitive to use. The leather wrapped steering wheel feels solid and premium, but that premium feel stops there since the rest of the wheel is hard plastic.
The buttons themselves do feel nice, but again, not premium and they do the job. One of my favorite features is the built-in display, and it is a welcome addition. There is a dedicated display button where you can toggle between speed, lap time, current position, engine RPM, etc., and that will depend on the game that you are playing. I honestly don’t use it a lot, but once in a while I do glance down and it is nice to have. One of my biggest gripes is with the paddle shifters, they are a hard plastic and I do wish they were a little bigger than they are, however, the noise they make when you click them is very loud and distracting. Thrustmaster should have made these a lot quieter and I found that I could even hear them when I had my headphones on too.
Force feedback has 3 different settings, but I struggled to find a difference between them with the games I played. My main game was Project Cars on the PS4 and, perhaps it was just the game, but I couldn't discern any difference between the modes. Maybe it was just me and I am not an expert, nor do I have a ton of experience using force feedback wheels, so take that into advisement.
Included are a set of pedals that, to me were very good and responsive. You can move them around to fit your style, but I just kept them in the factory settings. The brake pedal feels stiff, but you are given an even stiffer spring if you wanted to use that. The factory one was perfect for my needs though. The pedals themselves have grips for hard floors and stayed in place on mine, however, if you have carpet, these might have a tendency to move around.
Another gripe I have is the short USB Type A cable that is included. It is only 6’ long and in my opinion, should be at least 10’ or more. I imagine a USB type A extender may work, but I haven’t had a chance to try one out. The power cable is a little short as well, so I did use a regular household extension cable to get some more length out of that. Another thing to keep in mind, is that you may have to update the steering wheel to the latest firmware before your PlayStation will recognize it properly and to do that, you MUST use a PC from what the documents say. Overall, I feel that it is a bit overpriced and if you can get it while on sale, then you can’t go wrong with picking this up. Also, be sure to check out the Thrustmaster site for a list of games that are compatible with the T248

Thin laptops get the non-heatsink model
on January 17, 2022
Posted by: jago
from Sparks, NV
I was super excited to receive this Samsung 980 PRO with Heatsink NVMe M.2 SSD to expand the storage space in my gaming laptop. However, I was not able to use this since my laptop is thin and this SSD with Heatsink is larger than what will fit in my laptop. I had to use it in my desktop PC instead, so all was not lost. I am happy to report that this SSD preforms great for my gaming needs. Temperature of the SSD at its peak got up to around 50 degrees C and normal temp was around 30 C. Read / write speed according to CrystalDiskMark has this running at just under the advertised speed of 7,000 MB/s, I clocked it at 6,701 MB/s in the 1 GiB test for read and 4903 MB/s in the write speed. Not the end of the world, and I consider it close enough for my likes. This was straight out of the box, and I did not check my computer manufacturer for any updates that may have improved the speed. I may do that later on down the road though. The heatsink itself seems very well built and appears to dissipate the heat as intended. I highly recommend this SSD for all of your needs and if you have a thin laptop that you want to install this in, there is a version w/o the heatsink that would be ideal for that situation.

Simple, light, and awesome

Good sound, lightweight, long battery life, comfortable design, wireless…if those are qualities that you are looking for in a headset, be sure to check out the G535 LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming headset. They boast a 33 hours of battery life and in my testing, they lived up to that claim. Lightweight and comfortable for those long gaming sessions, I sometimes forget that they are on my head. The soft memory foam ear cans are perfectly sized for my ears and even though they don’t block out all exterior sound, they do block some. The microphone does provide sidetone sound so you can hear yourself talking if you want and if you install the G hub software, you can make adjustments to that to crank it up or turn it off. EQ settings are also controlled by the G hub software and if you have other Logitech G devices, it can control those as well, I have the G Pro wireless mouse. Charging is accomplished via an included USB type-C cable and the wireless dongle is USB Type A. I do wish these were Bluetooth wireless to keep a USB Type A spot open for something else, but that is not a deal breaker. The headphones themselves only have a power button and volume scroll wheel and that is it. Simple easy and well designed. There is a removeable head strap that you can swap out for other designs if you prefer to make the headphone more custom to you as well. The microphone works great and provides clear sound, I had no complaints from my teammates while playing our normal rounds of Call of Duty Warzone and Cold War. The microphone will flip up to get out of the way and this also will mute the microphone. These are rated to be compatible with the PS5, but I was only able to use with my PC so far. If you are looking for a new headset to kick off the new year, then check these out.

Navigate your desktop precisely with this Corsair Dark Core gaming mouse. It uses low-latency Bluetooth for syncing with compatible devices, and its 16000 DPI optical sensor provides high accuracy performance during game play. This Corsair Dark Core gaming mouse has a contoured shape and interchangeable textured side grips for a comfortable feel in hand.

Asking the people that bought this mouse, have they fixed the wireless connection issues ??? Any software updates to address the problem ??? Thank you in advance.....

I have been using it for a few days now, I did do a firmware update right away and I haven't noticed any connection issues yet. I have been using BT and 2.4GHz dongle.

Only at Best Buy Defend your home from intruders with this SimpliSafe security system. Its wireless design provides reliable, multilayer protection and avoids interruptions from cut phone lines and power outages, and it connects to an app for remote operation. This SimpliSafe security system is easy to install and customizable to homes of any size for flexible use.

Can more entry sensors or detectors be added to this unit afterwards? Or is the maximum amount four/one?

I am not sure if there is a max number of sensors, but you can add more if you need them. I am just not sure what the number is. But if you are planning on putting them on an area with many windows, they recommend getting a glass breakage sensor and motion sensor to cover those areas.

Will currently installed SimpliSafe sensors, etc. work with this new base unit, or will they all need to be replaced? Thank you.

I believe they need to be replaced with the new sensors. I saw that someone asked this very question on Facebook and simpisafe responded that the new unit only works with the new sensors.

Listen to your playlist in peace with these Sony headphones. They have a 40mm dome driver to deliver the full depth of audio, and the noise cancelling feature minimizes outside disturbances for a better listening experience. These Sony headphones have a battery life of up to 30 hours for extended jam sessions.

What walkman are compatible with these headphones?

only the tape walkman. j/k I think most devices can pair with this. You also get a 3.5mm cable and a 3.5mm jack on the headphones so yes, an old tape walkman will work.

Do these headphones have the same cracking problem that the last version had! I am planning to buy them soon and I want them to last for the price. Thank you.

I haven't noticed any crackling with these, but I have only had mine for about a week.

is there there an option of dvd?

just look for a usb type C (or type A) dvd drive, but if you mean an internal one, then no, not an option

Hi. I just bought this and the screen continually adjusts the brightness/contrast automatically. I've searched everywhere and did the fixes stated online but with no improvement. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks!

mine does the same thing. I don't have a solution though.

Hello, I bought the my xps 2 days ago. I am really concern about the cooling system because it is way too warm. Compare to my friend MacBook Air, it's Much warmer. Does anybody feel the laptop too warm? Even when It is just on charge Or in light use...

mine gets a little warm, but not too hot. I think its pretty safe and i don't fear it getting too hot that it will burn itself out. However, I haven't had mine running super intensive processes for long periods of time.

Can I add additional ssd on this laptop? Is it expandable?

its a sealed device, and there is no place to install an additional SSD, but you can get a microSD and use that for storage as well. You can probably make windows think its another HD and use it as extended storage.
