I had heard mixed things about this film; either that it was funny or that it was dark and not funny at all. I ordered it anyway because of the cast and set my expectations up for a darker kind of comedy without big laughs. That being said, there were definitely more big laughs than I expected and it felt like a satisfying and worthwhile film. If you're like me and worried that it's one of those dark indie "comedies" with zero laughs, do not fret. It's honest about how messed up our families can be, but that doesn't mean it isn't a fun film.
I was excited to watch this as one of the early 3D films in cinema, and to have it on Blu Ray sounded wonderful! I love Vincent Price, although I never had a chance to see this film before. It's somewhat disappointing overall, but still interesting for fans of 3D or Vincent Price. There's an extensive intermission segment that shamelessly works the 3D effect. More so than the use of a yo-yo in Friday the 13th 3D. The character involved doesn't even have a genuine role in the film. That and some very sexist content and tones in the movie kind of left the movie watching experience and story feeling a bit empty. I expected a lot more from this one and probably wouldn't purchase it if I were to do it over. 3 Stars for Vincent Price and its status as an early 3D horror.
Lovely film and different from many western animated films in that there's no bad guy here. This is a charming story about life and the innocence involved in experiencing both the ups and downs that come our way. A sweet film, very positive, imaginative, and cute with the heavy elements being thoughtfully delivered.
This release contains the complete first season of the Starz original horror comedy series Ash vs Evil Dead. A follow up to the Sam Raimi's Evil Dead film franchise, the series takes place thirty years after the events of the movies, and follows Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) once again at war with the Kandarian Demon after he accidentally unleashes the fury of the undead. The series co-stars Lucy Lawless, Dana DeLorenzo and Ray Santiago, with Raimi serving as a show developer. All ten episodes of the series are included in this set, as well as bonus content and deleted scenes.
This was a pleasant surprise! It's been a long time since we've seen Ash on screen and despite the undeniable cool factor and anticipation, this could have been a let down. Thankfully, it's not. It's a total love letter to the fans and really delivers that perfect balance of downright darkness with lighthearted humor that Evil Dead II delivered.
