Do not pass up listening to these

First, and foremeost, if you are in the market for speakers, go out and listen if possible. Compare under like conditions, but as I wrote in my summary, do not pas up listening to these.
I already had Definitive Technology experience due to having some in my "man room" and living room. It is my living room speakers I was replacing.
I had a Def Tech 60 series (today's 600 series) 5.1 setup in my living room which I felt needed a bit more punch. So, I went out and auditioned several types of speakers and kept coming back to these. I purchased 4. I use them for front and rear lefts and rights. I couldn't be happier.
I matched them with a Def Tech Prosub 1000 and a Def Tech Procenter 2000 (BB doesn't sell the 2000). The front stage is amazingly clear and the surrounds are nice and subtle.
I have them plugged into a Denon 2310CI allowing the AVR to drive the speakers.
Movies are awsome and music, well, its music to my ears!
Give these a listen and I do not think you will be sorry.
What's great about it: Sound production
What's not so great: Nothing

I love this product

First, it does not support WIFI, but not a big deal for me becuase I have a wired network.
Second, I do think it is a tad expensive, but the enjoyment I get out of it makes it worth it. Although, I would buy another if the price were lower.
Third, I find it odd that you have to connect with Denon in order to set it up, unless I am missing something.
The main reason I like this product so much is becuase of the internet radio feature. I live in an area where FM reception is very bad. I have tried all sorts of ways of pulling in signals over the air, but all have met with failure. With this dock I can pull in radio stations that broadcast over the internet and I find myself listening for hours, especially when I work from home.
Of course you can connect an IPOD to it (look on the Denon website for compatibility information), but I have this set up in my "man room" and can stream music directly from my computer to my Denon 2310CI. However, it does accomodate my IPOD classic 120GB quite nicely.
Firmware/software updates are a breeze due to its internet connectivity.
It works with my Harmony One remote.
In closing, and as I have mentioned above, I would purchase another one for my living room which also has a 2310CI, but at that point it would be a luxury for sure and I am not willing to pay the asking price for redundancy. Besides, the living room is for watching TV. However, when I want to listen to holiday music over the radio on Christmas Day while everyone is opening gifts, it may change my mind about it being strictly a luxury.
What's great about it: Internet radio
What's not so great: Price, it could be lower

Much flexibility

First, lets face it, noone can really comment on reliability and protection until, or unless, they have had a power surge and the item protected their precious equipment.
However, having written that, I have to say that this item has allowed much more flexibility than the standard inline outlet power strips due to its four dedicated transformer plugs. Also, having the on/off switch at the end away from those dedicated outlets is a plus by keeping it out of the way so that the transformer doesn't accidentally come in contact with the switch.
I intend to purchase a few more of these and get rid of those inline outlet power strips, or use them for items that do not have transformers.
While I am at it, and this has nothing to do with this item, why don't manufacturers make products with inline transformers so that they don't get in the way of plugs?
Anyway, I would suggest this item to anyone fighting the transformer plug confusion.
What's great about it: Flexibility
What's not so great: Couldn't find one in black

Great Stands
on November 27, 2009

Anyone using stands, please state which speakers you use them with. It could help others later on.
I purchased a pair of these to go with a pair of Definitive Technology Promonitor 800 surrounds. Having said that, with all of the adpters you get with these, I would find it hard to believe that there is a speaker out there they wouldn't work with assuming the weight limit is kept to.
Guys, you have to read the intructions. As I mentioned above, there are alot of mounting possibilities which does not make it intuitive.
These stands are very sturdy. They hold my speakers tight and unless someone, like my 4 year old grandson, runs right into them, they should stay put.
The best feature of these is that they are adjustable. I purchased a set of stands that were made to match my speakers, but they were about 1" short of where I wanted the speakers to end up. With these stands that is not an issue. Just adjust them up and VIOLA, you are good to go.
I wish I had purchased these first. It would have saved me alot of time and trouble.
If looking for stands, I suggest you give these are try.
What's great about it: Adjustable height
What's not so great: Have to read the instructions :)

Love these speakers

I am rebuilding a 7.1 system for my home office 11 X 11 in size. I now have a Denon 2310ci, an LG 1080P LCD, a Sony Blue Ray player, a HD STB, and my computer connected via a toslink cable.
It was time to place some focus on the speakers. Having Def Techs in my living room for a few years now and getting good service out of them, I decided to look at Def Techs again.
I started out looking at the Promonitor 1000s, and although the sound was great, I decided that they were just too much for the space. I then turned my attention to the Promonitor 800s. I asked the Magnolia sales person to select the 800s on the display, run them through the 2310ci that they have on display, and also connect the Promonitor 800 sub which I already have.
I have to tell you that I was blown away by the sound being pumped out of these relatively small speakers. The highs are crisp, the midrange clean, and bass through the 800 sub is just wonderful.
I am extremely pleased with these speakers and can not wait until I gather the funds to purchase 2 more each for the sides and rears.
Of course, I will still need a center and will more than likely get the Promonitor 1000 center.
Give these speakers a listen, I don't think you will be sorry.

The sub to my computer 7.1 system blew out and I needed to replace it. Having now been through two of these type subs, I decided it was time for a change, so I wanted to go with one desgned for a home theatre system rather than a computer.
I looked online at my local Best Buy and the subs I wanted to look at were listed as not available, or like this one, "coming soon". I decided to take the ride and look anyway.
I had a price limit, so I kept to that and asked the sales person to demonstrate those in that area. I didn't like the sound of any of them. I saw this one sitting on a shelf without any price or label on it. I asked if he could direct sound to it and it sounded the best.
I asked how much it was and if he had any in stock. I was expecting a no answer, but he disappeared and came back with one on a two wheeler. It was in my price range, sounded good, and I also have a Def Tech sub for my living room home theatre which has provided good service for a few years, so I purchased it.
Can't be happier with the sound, but I will tell you all that in the directions it states to turn the sub sound (gain) up to 12:00. I did that and I have to tell you that it is way too much and you could run the risk of damage. I would suggest only raising the gain to 25% and increasing it from there if needed.
I have put it through several tests, listening to music, watching Live Free Or Die Hard using 5.1 DTS, and I have to tell you it has passed with flying colors.
What's great about it: Nice punch
What's not so great: Nothing

OK at 99.00

I have been looking for a sound card for a new build and came across this at 99.00. Looked at the specs and saw that it had a digital out using a tosslink connector. I bought it.
Because my computer based sound system blew out yet another subwoofer, I decided that my next card had to have a digital out so that I could connect it up to a Denon receiver I had laying around. Worked perfectly (see review on Def Tech Pro Sub 800 subwoofer I purchased).
The card installed nicely and I downloaded the Beta drivers for Windows 7 X64. As I mentioned, worked perfectly.
I would have to say that if I had to pay 149.00, I probably would have purchased it. But, I had a reason due to the digital out. If I didn't have that type of application, I more than likely would have purchased something else. At 149.00 I feel it is a little overpriced for what you get, unless you have a special need to fill that this card provides.
What's great about it: Works great
What's not so great: At 149.00 maybe want to think hard about it
I would recommend this to a friend!

what do I use to hang speakers

That is a very general question you are asking. For example, there are wall mounts, ceiling mounts, stands, etc.

Of course, your speakers need to be able to be attached, which is usually indicated by mounting holes on them. Unless you feel like doing some speaker modding and drilling your own mounting holes. Be careful.

Be more specific about what you are attempting and maybe someone can provide a better answer.
