Great bass, almost perfect with some tweaking
on March 27, 2017
Posted by: BenisJ
First, these headphones are super comfortable. The muffs are very soft and fit well. Although not noise cancelling, they do block out ambient noise well.
The battery life is impressive at 18hrs. The 3.5mm (1/8th inch) audio patch cable provided by Sony lets you plug these headphones in "the old fashioned way" if you need to.
These headphones were designed for listening to hip hop/rap/pop/EDM -- anything with a strong, complex bass mix. Those genres don't even need the bass boost, but once you turn the boost on the bass is transformed to a new level.
On the other hand, these are not really the best headphones for the rock enthusiast--or anything that focuses more on guitars or loud/soulful vocals. The mid-range is a bit muddied and is noticeable the moment you cross over to grunge, 80s alt, or classic rock. Bass boost helps draw out the drums and bass guitar, but the vocals and other mid-/hi- range instruments can seem distant and slightly muffled.. These flaws can be corrected with tweaks to an equalizer if you have that option on your device. My paired device, however, does not push EQ settings when paired via bluetooth. [Note: When using the 3.5mm wire to connect the headphones my Android phone would allow me to configure the EQ on the fly. I recommend setting your device EQ to "balanced" or "vocals" before connecting via bluetooth to get a broader range of audio. Setting a "vocal focused" EQ then clicking the Bass Boost on the headphones made for a much more satisfying listening experience across all genres of music.]
Overall, a much better than average pair of headphones that don't break the bank. With a bit more tweaking, these could become my new favorite headphones.

Very good for the price

For the price, we have been very satisfied with the LG 2.1 soundbar with wireless woofer. The package came with an optical cable which was a nice surprise. The sound quality isn't as deep and rich as your more expensive units, but it adds a fullness that is far superior to built-in TV speakers. It can turn out enough volume to fill any household room and easily pairs with other bluetooth devices like a phone or tablet to make streaming music a breeze. Overall it is a very good, economical entry-level soundbar.

Convenient, functional but not perfect
on January 30, 2017
Posted by: BenisJ
JBL has a history of not compromising on sound and as an audiophile I have stood by the brand for years. Their latest Under Armour Sport Heart Rate Wireless ear buds, however, only produce average sound quality. The quality isn't *bad* but there are higher quality earbuds (not for exercise) out there. Given they are most likely to be worn in loud environments like a gym or roadway, volume and fit likely trump audio quality for many users.
To test the sound quality I streamed from three different sources: higher quality MP3 downloads (256 or better bitrate), Google Music and Slacker.com all on a MotoX phone. 80s pop and alternative playback was less than stellar but that could be the era/recordings. Modern hip-hop/rap/pop produced noticeably richer tones and deeper bass. Modern alt and rock was decently balanced.
Perhaps more important to consider are the "exercise" aspects: volume, reliability, ease of use/functionality, and fit/design.
Starting with volume, I had no complaints. You can crank it up to unsafe levels with no problem and minimal distortion.
Reliability is tough to gauge as they have only been in use a week, however. I did notice a few drop-outs (i.e. "digital gaps or skips") per hour long workout when streaming. Hard to know if that was earbuds, bluetooth or streaming service. They seem to charge fast but there is no way to know the progress of the charge. I first IGNORED the included 1-foot USB-to-mini cable. Instead I used the same cable I use to charge other devices off my laptop, but it would not charge these earbuds. Switching to the included cable allowed me to charge from laptop. (I also was able to charge using my phone's wall charger.) It should be noted that these earbuds do NOT come with a wall charger, just a USB-to-mini cable.
Ease of use is fine once you have everything figured out. Disclaimer: I don't read instructions but I did have to hit up the manual to figure out what I was doing wrong when turning them on and pairing. (Turns out I was holding the wrong button for on/off.) Once your buds are paired there's very little that can go wrong. There is "rocker" button on the cord for volume, skipping, microphone, etc. and it is easy to reach during a workout. I did not use the buds to take or place a phone call.
The fit is a bit bulky. The buds themselves are just a bit larger in diameter than a dime and have a fair amount of thickness. At first it seems there is no way they will fit your ear right, but they do (as advertised) "twist-lock" into your ear fairly well. The around-the-ear hook helps hold everything in place. I wore them for 4 hours in the office one day and found them very uncomfortable when worn in excess of a 60-90 minutes. My workouts, on the other hand, are usually only 60 minutes and they did not pose any discomfort for that short amount of time. I sweat profusely and, although I mostly ride a bike, I was stunned that these earbuds actually stayed put even when in full sweat. I cannot vouch for these when running, jumping, etc. as that is not part of my routine. I also tested them indoors so I cannot speak to ambient/wind noise. There is a clip to help hold your cord to a shirt. With multiple sizes of ear attachments chances are you will find one that works for you.
I use Endomondo which paired with the buds and heart rate monitor easily. I also used the suggested Under Armour app and have already uninstalled it as it was not beneficial to my needs. I found the heart rate monitor feature annoying. You tap your right ear to activate the sensor. My sensor would come and go frequently. A female voice constantly informed me that "heart rate monitor on, heart rate detected, heart rate disconnected, etc." This was very distracting and made me question the reliability of the heart rate monitor itself. I also struggled to get my music to play when the buds were paired with the Under Armour app, but that could have been because I don't read manuals.
Overall I was not dissatisfied with these earbuds, but not overwhelmed either. I was surprised that they stayed in my ear for me because they are a bit big for in-ear buds, but I was unimpressed by the heart-rate feature and am not sure I would pay a premium for that feature in an earbud. My "yes" recommendation hinges primarily on the fact that they stayed in my ear better than any other earbuds I have exercised with in the past.

Insanely Powerful
on January 23, 2017
Posted by: BenisJ
Upon un-boxing it was clear this wasn't an ordinary "blender." The unit came with 2-24oz and 1-32oz smoothie cups (the cups from our other Ninja also fit), the bowl, a metal blade and a plastic blade (for the bowl), the base, lids, and a "cookbook" with Ninja ideas.
The first thing we did with it was make frozen adult beverages, which is a piece of cake because the very first pre-set button encourages "instant smoothies." The Ninja pulverized ice! We filled a smoothie glass with ice and liquid, screwed on the blender cap, hit the SMOOTHIE button with IQ on and 60 seconds later the beverage was ready and was "slurpee" smooth. No icy chunks at all. Truly impressive.
My wife also makes "nutritional smoothies" as well with fruits, juice, ice, vegetables, etc. and they blow away a traditional blender's ability to get it done fast. Unlike our inferior bullet-like purchases, the Ninja does not struggle at all.
We also tried to make ice-cream "blizzards" but the smoothie cup is the wrong tool. You are better served with a traditional blender pitcher. We did not try in the bowl because we were not sure if the plastic mixing blade or the pre-set settings on the unit were really designed for that application.
As for the bowl, we bought a pre-packaged cookie dough mix (14 oz, I think). We were able to mix the entire package and ingredients in the bowl with the plastic mixer blade but to be honest, a regular bowl and a wooden spoon is just as easy. I see the bowl more for "food processor"-type activities like salsas or dips.
Because of the insane power of this blender, it comes with suction cups on the bottom--and they are needed! If you don't have a surface to suction the Ninja to you might have problems.
I would give 5-stars for performance alone, however, this unit doesn't store all that well. With the multiple blades and accessories, you need to find a dedicated home in your cabinet or pantry to store your Nutri Ninja Nutri Bowl Duo and the loose accessories. We not only needed to shuffle things around in our cupboards, we had to change the height of some shelves...and we've already found ourselves searching for lids at least once. Plus, because of its insane power, this blender makes an insane amount of noise--louder than most blenders. No sneaking off to make a daiquiri after the kids go to bed.
Nonetheless, we are very satisfied with the product and would recommend it to others.

Solid Signal w/ Easy-To-Use Features
on January 12, 2017
Posted by: BenisJ
Let me preface my review with the disclaimer that I am an IT guy and therefore have worked with WiFi routers from entry-level to enterprise level. The Linksys Velop uses some higher level WiFi technology and concepts behind the scenes to create an easy to set up and manage home WiFi network.
Out of the box (we have the 3-pack) there are no instructions other than "download the Linksys App" for Android or iPhone. [I'd give 5-stars had it not been for the forced app download and subsequent need to register a Linksys account. I personally don't like having to put another app on my mobile device to manage a product.] Once you have created your Linksys account and launched the app, the setup is pretty much a no-brainer as they walk you through step-by-step illustrated animations of the setup and configuration. (Setup also requires that you have bluetooth turned on on your Android or iOS device to detect your Velop antennas during setup.)
The setup knows to ask some critical questions such as "Is your home 'modem only' or 'modem with a router'?" For those who don't know the difference, there is a clear illustration to help you decide. From there you simply start plugging in the antennas (one to the modem via provided ethernet cable, the others anywhere in the house within approx 6' of a power outlet). Screens ask you to verify you are plugged in, then your phone (via bluetooth and an internet connection) magically connects, tests, and "meshes" your antennas together to complete the setup process. If an antenna is too far away from another the app will let you know you need relocate it. We did have an issue with connecting our basement antenna upon first attempt. When it failed, the app told us how to fix the problem then offered a "try connecting again" option and we were all set.
Aside from some early confusion in the setup of my Linksys account that had me thinking I was naming my home network (SSID) as opposed to my Linksys account network name, management is simple and straightforward with the Velop offering the features most families need. Again, it appears that all the features and controls of the network must be managed via the mobile app. There is no plugging a laptop directly into an antenna or opening a local webpage to control settings, or if there is, Linksys does not make that option clear. As for features, the parental controls and device management tools are fairly basic and simple. I like that you can rename devices in device management to more friendly names (Dad's Phone vs. Android123456789abcdef). You can also prioritize devices which is a big deal when you have lots of devices and family members who may work from home and need priority. Guest Access lets you create a separate network (and password) that you can share with guests while keeping them away from your data. There are advanced features that let you control DHCP settings, etc. for the nerds like myself. You can block websites by name or an entire device manually, but you cannot block sites by category. I was unable to determine how to set time restrictions in the Parental Controls which stated "scheduled time blocking can be created/edited only in the web-based interface" but does not tell you the web address of that interface. For more on the app, you can Google "Linksys App-enabled Routers" and see screenshots and watch video. One of the best features of the app is the ability to text or email your network (private or guest) credentials to a user.
We live in a 2-story 2400 sq ft home with a full basement. We have 15 internet connected devices running 24/7/365 more or less. The basement (xBox, SmartTV, Chromecast, mobile devices) would sometimes struggle with our ISP provided WiFi. We put an access point (Velop antenna) in the basement to solve that problem. We also stream music to an outdoor sound system and use devices on the deck or garage. Our ISP WiFi would barely reach. An access point on the second floor nearest our backyard solved the outdoor issues. Additionally, we use a hybrid cell/WiFi phone system because cellular reception is poor in our neighborhood. Velop strengthened our signal throughout the home and yard, greatly increasing reliability of our mobile phone connections.
Speed seems great, devices are not intrusive nor is the "on" light annoying at night. Antennas can be easily moved if you need temporary strength elsewhere. As long as you have power nearby you can, for the most part, expand your WiFi coverage with ease.
All said, the Velop is a solid performer that solved several of my dead-spot issues in a fairly large house with garage/outdoor/basement WiFi needs for over a dozen internet connected devices.

How does this help with pet hairs? Just wet spin moping doesn't help much. I thought it would pick them up and put them inside a tank like a vacuum cleaner. Or use dry to pick them up.

This mop replaces getting on your hands and knees to clean a floor, or using a sponge mop. It can trap some hair in the pads but you need to dry sweep dust bunnies, hair, and dirt particles. It does not have a separate "vacuum" tank or trap.

Can this be safely used on engineered hardwood?

You are in complete control of how much solution sprays out (works with the push of a button) so if your concern is water in between planks, I would think you could just spray less water. Dry time is similar to using a damp sponge mop or washing by hand.

I clean my hardwood floors with water and vinegar can that be used in the machine? I am careful the products I use near my dogs.

I would think so. As long as your solution doesn't thicken it should spray out just fine.

I have vinyl wood flooring . Will this get the scuff marks out? Or would a regular buffer be better.

I needed need extra effort (elbow grease and scrub brush) to buff out scuff marks on a linoleum floor, so you'll likely need a better solution for vinyl.

How would these headphones work for boxing ?

If you wear head gear with a covered or mostly covered ear hole these buds might be too bulky to fit comfortably, especially if you get hit in the ear. I think they would be fine if just working the heavy or speed bag or other "none contact" training.

Does the plastic piece that goes over the ear come off? And if so- will they still remain in your ear without falling out frequently?

No. The cord is integrated with the over-the-ear hook and feeds sound to the bud.
