USB question
My Dell is old but quite efficient. I need an external hard drive to back up files, documents etc. But my USB ports are less than 2.0. Is there an external hard drive that I can use?
Virtually all of the USB external hard drives are back-compatible with USB 1.0 ports. You'll usually get a message saying that "this device can work faster if you plug it into a USB 2.0 port", but it still should work. Warning, though, it will be slow! I've got some older desktops that are still USB 1.0 and even my USB 3.0 externals work. You might want to see if your old Dell has a PCMCIA slot. If it does, you should be able to buy a USB 2.0 card for that slot and speed up the process. On my desktops I just got USB 2.0 cards for the non-occupied slots on the machines and that took care of the problem.
Good luck
