Olive produced this Blu Ray. Their earlier track record for BD transfer were once hit or miss. But that's been rapidly changing with their newer titles. Make no mistake, this review is not about the film's plot. This review is strictly about the quality of the picture. VistaVision can be a jaw-dropping experience if restored or transferred properly to a Blu Ray Disc. And this one delivers. It's not just VistaVision, its also in Technicolor, as well. A format long gone, but perfectly replicated and represented for your home screen. If done right, it can be a real treat. And this BD from Olive scores a Home-Run.

Watch It in the Total of Dark

Warner Archive Collection continues to pour out a perfect picture/sound presentation. In this case, it's Wait Until Dark. And I stress, you MUST watch it in total darkness...no lights in the hall either, or you'll be cheating yourself out of the experience. This experience was designed for total darkness, especially in the final 10 minutes. Which is also why a perfect BD transfer was necessary for this thriller film. And perfect is what you'll get !!! BTW, Audrey Hepburn was nominated for this role and for good reason.

If you haven't seen "Tora, Tora, Tora !!!" then you must first know that this is a nearly literal treatment of what historically took place. The research was immense; but do not look for a razzle-dazzle action film. Yes, there's plenty of action, here; after all, it was Pearl Harbor. But its all treatment in the context of what took place. With that in mind, I was more than pleasantly surprised about what I purchased. I had seen early incarnations of this film on VHS and was bored. It looked terrible.
But in wanting to review this film for its content, so many years later. I was watching something altogether different. The BD picture quality is as perfect as one can get; for a film that's 48 years old. The compositions of the photography opened this film all the way up; as opposed to the cropped square I saw in the VHS format. And the sound was just as impressive. This BD made "Tora, Tora, Tora !!!" ,as I once knew it, created an entirely different ballgame in all its scope.

At the Sound of "Speed"

If you haven't seen "Speed", it makes for a good ride.
Picture quality of this BD is more than fine; but my purpose for this purchase had to do with "Speed" winning an Oscar for its Sound Design. And it's win does not go unwarranted, years after the fact.
In love with the film as a whole? Then don't hesitate. No regrets, here.

If you already own the 15th Anniversary edition of "Apollo 13" on BD, then I assure you; you ain't seen nothing, yet !!! I am not one for double-dipping; but the reviews on the 20th Anniversary had me sold across the boards. If visual and audible perfections are part of what you look for in BD pleasures, then this 20th Anniversary will simply have you transfixed and in awe. A truly magnificent BD.

"Battleground"; a perfect BD in every way

"Battleground" as a film, itself, is a solid work of acting, writing and directing. If you hate older Black and White films; then you're missing out for no real purpose, at all. Love Black and White titles from the 1940's and haven't seen this war gem, yet? Then you're in for a treat.
It's both a comedy and a drama; with neither overdone. But the initial purchasing point for me was that this film took home the Oscar for Best Cinematography (Black and White); and Warner Archive Collection has given us a more than perfect visual. If this film wasn't fully restored, then I'll eat my hat. Not to be missed.
