I remember watching this in the theater and being amazed by the special effects. All these years later, I think the movie holds up well. The blu-ray quality is good and contains some extras, which is always nice.
Between the narration by Boris Karloff and the singing of Thurl Ravenscroft, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a wonderfully entertaining classic. Even without the hilariously expressive visuals of Chuck Jones' animation, this CD serves as a great "audiobook" that had me laughing and singing along in my car.. :D
More mellow than her previous albums, Now goes in a different artistic direction, opting not to simply copy past successes. The end result shows a vulnerable side for Shania. Those looking for the wilder, anthemic songs may be disappointed, but this album has its high points and is still worth checking out..
Just as BBVD did with Cab Calloway's music on 2009's How Big Can You Get?, they perform faithful covers of music by Louie Armstrong, Louie Jordan, and Louie Prima. If you're a BBVD fan, a fan of any of the "Louies" covered, or a fan of swing music.. heck, if you're just a fan of awesome musicianship, you'll love this album..
A good comeback for Vince Neil, as he returns as Mötley Crüe's frontman. The band has a more "mature" sound. Not bad, overall, and a must-have for any Crüe fan..
As with many others, Chuck Berry is one of the reasons I picked up a guitar. His influence in rock 'n' roll and pop culture can never be overstated. That said, I wasn't crazy about the entire album. I love Chuck Berry, and it pains me to say anything negative (I'm sure others will disagree- that's cool). "Chuck" definitely has some high points (check out the infectious Big Boys!). Unfortunately for me (in my humble opinion), there weren't enough to carry a full album's worth of material. I would still recommend this album to fans or anyone familiar with his music (how could anyone not be?). For the few newbies and unindoctrinated, I would first recommend a greatest hits collection, and learn how this legend had made such a lasting impact in American music/culture..
How Cheap Trick continues to keep putting out new music and stay true to themselves, while still sounding fresh is beyond me. I have every one of their albums, and this one did not disappoint. Whether you're a fan, a casual listener, or a newbie just looking for good, fun rock 'n' roll, I will always recommend Cheap Trick. This album is no exception.
I first saw Robot Carnival on cable, many years ago. I bought it on VHS, back in the day, and watched it several times. Now, at last, it's available on DVD (Blu-ray would be nice). You can read the synopsis in the product description, and I don't want to spoil anything. I'll just say that this movie is a classic. While some parts may seem dated, I feel that it still holds up today, and should be (IMO) required viewing for any anime connoisseur.
