Between Direct TV and cable (internet and phone), I was spending $270 per month. I mostly watch about 5 channels of TV (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS) so I really don't need the other 167 channels. What I did need was a recorder (DVR), which I had with Direct TV. After a little research, I decided to get my 5 channels 'over-the-air' (all for free and in HD). But the problem was, I still needed a recorder (DVR), in comes Tivo. Set up was fairly easy, I input all the shows I wanted to record as they were being broadcast in Tivo's One Pass. In regards to other programming, I'm an Amazon Prime and Netflix member, their apps are in the Tivo program so it's really easy to stream content from both those providers. I did sign up for Hulu ($15 per month commercial free) to have access to previous seasons of the more popular shows. The only thing I wish Tivo had was HBO Now (they have HBO Go but you need a cable connection for that to work) and ESPN. I've always had Apple TV, so I get my HBO Now via Apple TV. It would be easier if it was available through Tivo.

Awful Experience with Ooma

I bought this product from Best Buy end of January, I did the initial set up per Ooma instructions while I waited for them to port my number. First of February I received an email from Ooma that my number was successfully ported to Ooma, I then completed the Ooma set up. Everything was fine until the first of April when I noticed I hadn't recieved any incoming phone calls for a couple of days, even though I was making outgoing calls. I contacted Ooma immediately via live chat, and then a phone call to their technical group. Over the past 14 days, I have contact Ooma numerous times. Each time they promise to fix the problem within a few days. Now when I call them, all they can tell me is that my problem has been "elevated". By the way, their call center is located in the Philippines, so their English is not very good. They have promised to contact me by email, they never have. They have promised to follow up, they never have. If you read the 1 and 2 star reviews about Ooma on various websites, you'll see that my problem is not unique. I would never recommend Ooma! I still have a phone line which won't receive incoming calls, and, I'm out over $200.

how many shows can you record at once
I have the Tivo Bolt, it has four tuners. So you can record four shows at one time, or, watch one and record three, and so on. If you have Tivo Mini's on your other TVs, you're still limited to the four tuners. If someone's watching TV in another room, that's one tuner, if you're watching somewhere else, that's another turner, you then only have two tuners left to record with.

I am trying to find options of getting rid of paid cable and just having a device that allows me to record shows and play back on more than one tv
Will this TIVO bolt device allow me to record from and play recordings on more than one tv? If so, what would I need to buy extra to do this, besides the Tivo service @ 15.00 a month after the first free year? I have the HD antenna already for 2 tvs.
Tivo acts as your DVR (recorder) and streaming device. If you add Tivo Mini's (about $100 on sale) to your other TVs, they link to your main Tivo, so the answer is yes.
