Our XM Xpress RCI died after almost 4 years. Really wanted this radio again because it was best i've used but is not offered at Best Buy anymore. We had the extended warranty so had to use our credit here and choose from the available models. Of the choices the Onyx plus was the best unit. The FM connection is much nicer than what we had to "rig" in the past. It gets fuzzy like any other FM station if there's conflict but overall is pretty solid. When changing channels it will restart the song when tuned which is nice.
Navigating the channels could be easier as you have to hold the number key and then type the numbers and press select to change. On the Xpress there was a knob you could turn and press to fly through the channels. Also you have to go by category and then scroll instead of going through them individually.
If this radio would adopt the knob feature of the Xpress then it would easily be the best radio out there. As is, it is the best of the available XM radios.

What's great about it: Easy setup, FM integration, song restart on tuning
What's not so great: Navigating the channels could be much easier, FM gets drowned out sometimes

what is the difference between onyx sat. receiver and onyx plus?
Does one receive more channels? Both receivers seem to come in a installation bundle kit, is there a difference between the plus kit and the and the other kit? Different in features? I am a 1st buyer and just want to listen to the blues channel (70).
The channels are dependent on the package you choose from XM/Sirius so the receiver doesn't come into play. I'm not sure what the differences are between the kits. I chose the Onyx Plus mainly because of the built in FM transmitter. I can't use the Aux cable or straight wire so needed the ability to use the FM transmitter. If the transmitter isnt important and its just to listen to a particular station i wouldnt spend more than i had to.
