Mario XCOM
on January 20, 2018

Probably the most common comparison made for this game. In case you are not familiar with XCOM or its gameplay style, essentially it's a turn based strategy game. Usually two teams, either controlled by two players, or in story mode - one player controlled team versus AI controlled team.
The player can control his/her team selecting one character at a time, pointing where to move in the map (viewed from a high camera angle), choosing to then attack an enemy, or use character specific abilities - heal, increase defense, increase attack, or some other character unique power.
Typically, the flow of the game is slow due to the individual team control and strategic approach, which makes this genre not as popular as shooter or action games.
For those of us who enjoy thinking about our next move (like in chess), or risk possibilities of waiting a turn instead of moving ahead so a charged ability (usually charged by turns instead of real time) can be used for greater effect later, it is quite an addicting fun experience.
In this layout, Ubisoft and Nintendo created a great xcom style adventure, making the most unlikely mix of Mario and Rabbids (the pre-minion minions like rabbits).
Without spoiling the story (yes story in a Mario game), Rabbids get in the Mushroom Kingdom, naturally make a mess in fabric of Mario's reality, and things keep getting interesting and crazy from there. Story progresses in a linear open world style. Players can revisit the worlds and replay chapters for better scores.
In between actual battle segments, the player can explore parts of the open world, solve basic puzzles to unlock collectible art or points currency for upgrades.
Aside from strategic components, characters use megaman like arm-cannons to attack enemies. Family friendly animated violence. They can be acquired with in-game currency.
Characters for the team can be chosen and upgraded, each with their unique abilities, such as Luigi being a sniper, Rabbid Peach a healer, and Rabbid Luigi a tech character. The roaster inspires strategy and experimentation that extends the replay value.
Visuals are cartoon style like most Mario games, but in HD, and unique artistic approach from Ubisoft's team. Soundtrack is fantastic with epic and goofy orchestrated soundtrack that perfectly fits either exploration or battles.
The game is a great addition to anyone with a nintendo switch who likes strategy games. It is fun and family friendly, offering versus and cooperative mode with options that allow for playing with kids, all the way to technically challenging settings for experienced players.
Minor negatives for this near perfect game are that teams can only have 3 characters max, and that occasionally enemies are able to shoot your team from angles that are not physically possible (shot is clearly seen going through a wall). Though that happened only twice and didn't distract much from overall fun experience.

First digital camera purchase
on August 13, 2017

I am an amateur photographer. Everything I know of photography comes from studying physics and just self interest of taking pictures for sharing. I do not intend to have photography as more than a hobby in my life.
Phone cameras, for as advanced as they have become, they still do not offer proper f/stop, iso, or shutter speed controls due to obvious hardware limitations. And many times I missed a good picture moment due to digital zoom making the scene a blurry mess. So I gave in to the idea of purchasing a digital camera.
Friends who are professional photographers recommended going straight for a mirrorless camera. One who made part of his career using canon SLR and DSLR cameras, the other nikon DSLRs; both moved on from DSLRs to sony mirrorless. They both convinced me of having not as steep learning curve in handling the camera.
Playing around with other DSLRs and the the sony a6000 in stores, I understood what my friends meant. Auto focus speed is fast and intuitive, iso and shutter speed live preview from OLED view finder made the camera's use very intuitive even for a first timer as me. No surprises of changing settings and then getting a blurrier or darker picture than what the view finder couldn't predict.
This camera is also very light when using the 16-50mm kit lens. Can be easily carried with included strap or conveniently in backpack. Build material is solid.
The included 16-50mm kit lens offers great range for wide angle captures that most other cameras don't offer with 18mm. Colors are always vivid and images sharp thanks to auto focus. Even when using manual focus, the OLED view finder offers zoom to where you desire to aim to achieve accurate preview to and pin point focus adjustments.
55-210mm lens takes excellent long distance captures with solid precision. As expected, it adds weight to the camera, making it less portable. Captures come out great and sharp from long distances, allowing for good range in outdoors, and thanks to the camera's sensor great night time pictures and videos.
This camera doesn't support 4k video capture. However, recording 1080p 60fps videos is easy and intuitive. Also allows other finer adjustments for capture saving, including 24fps for cinematic results.
Camera supports sony's playmemory apps. They can be purchased separately. One of them allows for timelapse capture with excellent presets and customization for all kinds of creative captures.
This is being a great camera for a first timer. Even semi and professional photographer friends have fun with this camera when I present it to them. Preset options, and levels of control allow for my creativity to be unbounded by my phone's camera. My skyline and sunset pictures are better than ever.
More lens can be bought for even greater creative options that may lead to professional routes of photography.
Only negative I have, common to my friends who jumped from DSLRs, is the battery life. It is a result of smaller body, and fact that the image sensor is continuously active due to view finder true preview, versus DSLRs' sensor being active only at shutter action. So far it lasts around 3.5 hours of video capture in 1080p 60fps, or about 400 pictures per charge. Definitely not a deal breaker as I don't use it for more than a day without charging. But I do have to charge it almost every other day. When I do go for a trip, I may buy either extra battery or a high capacity phone charger to charge it on the go.
Charging can be done from USB straight in camera, though slow when connected to a computer. With wall outlet charger, it gets to 100% in about 1 hour or less.
Image sharing can be done from NFC with supported NFC enabled tablets/phones, or local WIFI signal straight from camera, which allows to browse camera's pictures and videos and download straight to phone/tablet using playmemories app. Transfers of 50 pictures take less than 1 minute, no internet or computer required.
Only downside to this excellent and convenient feature is that RAW pictures will be transferred as JPEG, so less options are then given in mobile version of Lightroom style editors.
I am happy my friends recommended such a great camera for first purchase. And by amount of features and compatible lens sony is making, this may be my long term photography tool.

Excellent non-3D option

Bought as a gift for my child. I currently own the New Nintendo 3DS. My child would play in it a few times, and always with 3D off.
The New Nintendo 2DS has all of the same technologies for processing and features as the 3D counterpart, except for the 3D parallax screen. Ironically it still features a 3D camera.
That means it plays exactly like the New Nintendo 3DS with 3D slider to off. Same great controls, but actually better. The 4 triggers are now larger and more comfortable to reach for either big or small hands.
Same great library of Nintendo DS and 3DS games play in the console without issues. Also the great Virtual Console of upscaled NES, SNES, and Game Boy games is accessible from eShop.
Console is actually a bit smaller and lighter than the 3DS. Build quality is also on par. Battery life also seems to be on par for my child's play time, only needing to charge once or twice a week.
It already includes a 4gb micro sd card for save data and eShop game downloads; this time card is easily accessible from front covered slot next to cartridge slot, making it safe and convenient to remove.
Also includes the charger, which is compatible to all other 3DS consoles.

Ink-splatting action is back and fresher than everThe squid kids called Inklings are back to splat more ink and claim more turf in this colorful and chaotic 4-on-4 action shooter. For the first time, take Turf War battles on-the-go with the Nintendo Switch™ system, and use any of the console’s portable play styles for intense local multiplayer* action. Even team up for new 4-player co-op fun in Salmon Run!Expect a fresh wave of fashion, not to mention new weapons and gear. Dual wield the new Splat Dualies or stick to mainstays like chargers and rollers, which have been remixed with new strategic possibilities. As always, Turf War is the favored sport among Inklings, but they also dig ranked battles, taking down Octarians in a robust single-player campaign, and battling enemy Salmonids in one dangerous part-time job! Actually better than excellent first game
on July 23, 2017

The sequel to the amazing Wii U gem, Splatoon 2 on Switch does everything the first game did, but better, and now with option to keep the fun wherever you are, and even setting up local multiplayer with other friends with multiple Nintendo Switch consoles.
The game's main focus is the 4 v 4 online multiplayer of Turf Wars. Although using weapons, the objective isn't killing opponents. Rather splatting ink of your team over the map in greater quantity than enemy team's color. By end of round, the color of ink with greater quantity on the map wins. Splatting enemies grants bonus points only, and sets them back to respawn, making coloring of their area easier. It is a fast and frantic action.
Character movements are fast. Played in third person view, this is a game for all ages. No violence or killing. Yet the intricacies of customizing your character with different clothes for style and different stats, as well as choosing different weapons of specific load outs give amazing depth and longevity to the game.
Characters can transform into squids when pressing and holding one of the triggers, allowing you to swim fast over your ink, even allowing to climb over inked walls, giving levels diverse movement and vertical traversal. The game also features natural motion controls for aiming like in Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. But that is optional and may be turned off in favor of traditional right stick aiming.
Weapons range from sniper rifles, machine guns, to big ink rollers and paint brushes, even color buckets. None of the weapons fire typical bullets, only ink of your team's color. They each have their stats and different grenade secondary fire, as well as a chargeable special attack.
Developers confirmed free DLC for one year, like they did and fulfilled with first game. Multiple new maps and weapons will be released, keeping the game new and fun for longer without need to shell out for DLC or season passes.
Single player story is also included. Similar to first game but now with different weapons allowed intrinsic to the levels they are featured. The story is fun and levels feature platforming and plenty of weapon action. As well as some incentive for exploration and score chasing for replay.
Visuals now run in higher dynamic resolution than first game, along with higher definition textures. This is no 4K piece like other consoles, but ironically will wow more people regardless of their gaming interests due to how sharp and color visuals are. With varied hue that surpasses even Pixar animations.
Unfortunately, only one person can play per console. Yet multiple consoles can connect online or locally for 2 to 8 player multiplayer sessions.
There are league and ranked multiplayer modes online as well for those more hard core and competitive players, with varying objectives other than the ground coloring.
New too for those fans of online coop survival modes (a la Horde), is Salmon Run, where 4 players locally or online work together to survive against waves of enemies and boss fights, raking up points for hard to earn but very rewarding items.
I highly recommend this game for fans of the first, as well as to anyone who owns a Nintendo Switch. Or those looking great new online experiences different than yearly released recycled shooters. Original game was official winner for Best Multiplayer game of VGA of year it came out. This sequel is better than original.

Another great new Franchise from Nintento

I was never good in fighting games, and they rarely interested me. Even though I am a big nintendo fan, not even Super Smash does it for me personally.
However, Arms brings interesting concept of motion controls of boxing like gameplay that made Wii Sports Boxing fun 10 years ago, to the next level.
Controls method options are available. If you despise the "gimmick" of motion controls, you may play the game entirely with Pro Controller or docked JoyCons using buttons only. This will render a little bit better precision in timing of some inputs.
However, motion controls are the highlighted option. In this fighting game, you actually have the camera behind (third person view) of your character. Motions with JoyCons imitating punches will make your character punch, though their spring like arms extend the punch.
Moving your arms with the controllers, will make your character's spring arms curve in the direction you want. It is a surprising fidelity of motion control that makes the game very fun and engaging.
The character can move around in the arena to anywhere you want. You may punch, jump, dodge, block, and grab.
These simple mechanics work around the logic that: punches beat/cancel grabs, blocks cancel punches, and grabs beat blocks.
Simple enough. Though superficially only. As you bump up difficulty, you will learn of further intricacies, such as counter punches, combined with the variety of Arms to be unlocked.
The game has 10 characters. More coming through confirmed free DLC. Each character has their own stats of speed, defense, and power. Additionally, each has a unique ability. They vary from Regenerating health when blocking, to multiple air jumps, and even auto charge arms attack when low on health.
Each character has a pre-set of 3 arms to choose. The arms are rather like boxing gloves that have unique stats/abilities, that range from fire to burn for extra time damage, freezing to slow down opponent, even creative ones such as boomerangs that make punches extra curved, or slapping arms that make punches more like whipping attacks.
You may charge your punches to enable the element/power attack of chosen gloves.
As you fight, you get credit points that can be used in a fun arcade game to unlock additional arms for all characters.
Stages are few for now, but more may come through DLC. They are well designed and creative, ranging from beach day park, to dynamic changing terrain of a dance stage.
There are several game modes. Championship which is a story-less career mode, where you choose difficulty and go through all characters fight in a typical fighter arcade run. V Ball, where a bomb inside a volley ball is thrown around, if ball stays in you court side for too long it explodes granting opponent team a point. Basketball mode, where you literally must grab enemy and throw him/her to a basketball hoop for points. Target practice. And team fights.
All of the modes can be played locally single player, locally with up to 4 friends, in between local Nintendo Switch consoles, and Online.
Online has additional 1 v 1 mode for ranked serious matches.
Online mode also benefits of a dynamic party lobby that rearranges you and online contestants in various modes and fights. Something very fun and interesting to see as matches diagrams keep moving around live as you wait to join a match.
Visuals are great as expected of true nintendo franchises. Full HD 1080p 60 frames per second gameplay for single player locally or online. Visuals drop to 900p 60fps for 2 players locally or online. And for 3 or 4 drops to 720p 30fps.
If you aren't into fighting games like me, this may still interest you for the unique twists of modes and manner of actual fighting.
It is fun for both casual players and hard core fighting gamers.
I won't be surprised to see serious tournaments or eSports for this game in near future.

Almost perfect gaming controller
on June 2, 2017

This controller is highly recommendable for any Nintendo Switch owners who hardcore fans of traditional console game controllers.
This controller mixes the best of comfort in grip and material of GameCube controller, with the buttons/sticks layout of Xbox One controller.
Buttons are large and "clicky", analog sticks have good travel space and solid material which keeps them well placed on thumbs at all times. Triggers are comfortable as well.
Also features motion controls with accelerometer and gyroscope, offering same motion capture precision of Joy Cons.
Contains same HD Rumble tech as joy cons, so incredibly precise rumbles and feedback in mario kart 8 deluxe can be felt with it. Simple best precision and feedback of any video controller built so far. A step above in precision of dualshock 4, and even more accurate than xbox one's triggers feedback. It has the intensity and power of GameCube's rumble, but with finesse and precision of direction based jolts that make controller more in different directions and precise pulses like no other controller.
Controller comes with standard USB to USB-C cord for charging it. Battery life is great. So far in one week usage, over 30 hours of gaming and still didn't have to recharge it. Cord is handy as it can be used for charging the Switch itself when in portable mode.
Finally, it has amiibo sensor to use with compatible games.
Only reason I knocked a star off from such excellent product, is fact that the triggers are digital instead of analog. Meaning possible GameCube virtual console or racing games requiring analog precision won't work ideally with this controller.
Still, high quality of this product make it easily recommendable as an alternative to the joycons as controllers for Nintendo Switch.

Best Mario Kart yet

After playing all mario karts, loving the series since the first, I can safely say this is the best of the series.
Visuals are sharp 1080p at 60 frames per second in TV mode, and beautiful colorful 720p also 60 frames per second in portable mode.
48 racing tracks, 8 battle stages, multiple battle modes that keep diversity and strategy in the battles.
Online play is fast and fluid. Though when playing 3 or 4 players in same console frame rates drop to 30.
Controls feature optional motion controls, and steering with auto-accelerate to players who are still learning to play.
I highly recommend this game to players of all ages, for single player or crazy party fun. No matter if new to series, or like me following since first, this game is a must for Nintendo Switch owners.

Chose this laptop for school and office requirements. Not a powerhouse for gaming.
The 1TB is more than enough to store college projects and office documentation.
Fast to operate, and intuitive due to Windows 10.
Not a fan of touch screen laptops, so not having one was not a factor of this purchase.
Battery lasts around 4 to 5 hours on using word editors, and class video watching both on and offline.
A bit lighter than expected given the size. Making it excellent to carry along with college books and material in my bag.

Faithfully recreated from Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess game, and possibly even more detailed than from in game model. Midna and Wolf link look more fantastic and alive.

what is the overall quatlity of the 2 kit lenses that come with this?

So far, they have been great. Build quality is good and solid.
Image quality for the small lens is excellent for wide captures of not so far landscape, or of group photos.
55-210mm is excellent for long distance landscapes, and video recording. Very versatile though not portable due to weight.
