TPU Case, Limited Front Protection, Poor MagSafe
on November 1, 2023
Posted by: teasten
Let's be honest, the fruit company cases are far too expensive, so was keen to find an alternative as a case on a $1000+ phone is a must. The Best Buy essentials case is at the value end of the case spectrum. It's made of soft plastic (I think it's TPU) which has always been my favorite type of case because they're light, easy to get on/off and don't add bulk. This type of plastic has historically been prone to yellowing, so not sure how well it will hold up longer term.Where the case is good is has great side and back protection, good bumpers and raised edges for the lens. Where I was surprised and a little disappointed, is the front (screen) side offers no real protection. There's no raised lip that will protect your phone when it's face down on your desk or invariably when your phone falls on the sidewalk. I feel this a big miss. I will say that the (possible) trade off is the case works very well with a glass screen protector. So pairing this case with a screen protector is a must. But there is one other miss and that's MagSafe doesn't really work. This case doesn't have it's own MagSafe magnet and while you can kind-of use MagSafe accessories with the case, they don't hold firmly - so I would advise against using this case with a MagSafe car holder, or even with a MagSafe wallet as the case is just a little too thick to allow the magnet to properly work. Overall, I think this is a good first case, backup case, just got your phone and need a case fast and now but if you need MagSafe or screen protection, you may want to look for an alternative.

Fun, Improved Focus, USB C, Best for Parties
on November 1, 2023
Posted by: teasten
I have owned a few Polaroid products (Instant Printer being one) and they're just fun - there's something magical about the way they work. This version of the Polaroid Instant Film Camera (Gen 2) doesn't come with film - you will need to grab some i-Type or 600 film, but everything else you need to use and charge it is in the box. There's a built in LiOn battery that charges via USB C (yay) and the white color has a cool retro modern vibe... although I wonder how the white will stand up to repeated use and passing from person to person. Taking photos is a snap (ha! pun!) although I think the shutter button is less than ideally located as I found myself a few times obscuring the flash. On the flash, it's auto but you can disable it if you want. Photo quality is improved from Gen 1 and what I will call ancient instant cameras, with a basic 2 lens autofocus. There's a cool double exposure feature which I makes for some trippy photo effects or will encourage you to be more creative. Sure you can do so much of this and more on your phone but it's not the same. I should add the self timer is nice but unless you have a good stable high place to put it, not sure it's really that useful.
Would I buy this again? I like Instant Cameras, it gets people off their phones and we used it at our Halloween party to encourage people to take random photos as a momento. The Polaroid Instant Film Camera is perfect for this - nothing beats taking a real photo and being able to stick it on your fridge instead of it being lost forever in your phone. And really that's what you need to know from this review. The Polaroid Instant Film Camera is not an every day camera, it's not a replacement for your phone or a photo printer - it's a fun camera for family events, parties, etc. If you think of and use it this way, you will have so much fun and great memories.
If I could change anything, it would be the location of the shutter button.
PS. Pro tip, when you buy film, keep it refrigerated. This will help extend the life of the film and keep your shots looking good.

GREAT Curved, HDR Monitor with Full Rotation
on October 22, 2023
Posted by: teasten
The ASUS TUF Curved Monitor with G Sync is an amazing curved gaming monitor.
In the box, you get:
- the 27" curved monitor
- stand
- HDMI and Display Port Cables (nice to have them included, thanks ASUS)
- power cable
Setup took seconds, the arm is already connected so your just need to thumb screw in the base. The base is the right size, not too big for a desk and the arm has cable runs. I was happy to discover that the stand rotates but also the arm allows you to switch the monitor 90 degrees (left or right). I have owned other curved monitors in the past and this is the first I have seen in this price range that includes this feature. On that basis alone, I would recommend this monitor and I am thinking of getting a second, one for gaming and another for occasional vertical use to keep discord running. I do want to know, cable lengths were all good (power, HDMI, Display) for a floor based gaming RIG.
As for the display, it's very sharp. No light bleeds, or faded spots. Playing Starfield was amazing on the curved screen, blacks were deep and colors were rich especially in HDR. Very immersive experience. On FPS games, I did Destiny 2 and Fortnite, my two go to titles and there was no tearing and no frame drops (gaming on a RTX4070) connected by Display Port. The monitor supports overclocking up to 280Hz refresh rate which is insane. One of the things I love and appreciate about the ASUS TUF, it supports both HDMI and Display Port, making it great for gaming but also if you need to occasionally do work - you can have your gaming PC hooked up and switch to another computer for that Zoom call.
Things to know - there's no RGB lighting (I don't see that as a loss, I don't like RGB lighting on a monitor). Menu controls are easy to navigate. If I had one complaint or miss is it caps out at 1920x1080. This is perfectly OK if you're using it on a PC based environment but if you're after a gaming monitor for a console you may prefer 4k.
I would definitely recommend this monitor and if you're after a dual monitor setup, the 90degree rotation makes the ASUS TUF a great choice.

Great Protection, Magsafe Support, 50% Recycled
on October 21, 2023
Posted by: teasten
This is my first time using a Casetify Case. I say that, but then the case was kidnapped by my partner. Why? First, this case as a mirrored service on the side of the main camera. It has been scratch resistant (so far) but my partner loves it because she has been using it to take family selfies with the better iPhone 15 camera. What I like is the case provides all round coverage, with a good trade off between size and protection. USB C port is easily accessible and all my my chargers fit. If I have one complaint it's that the iPhone Action button is hard to reach, as Casetify haven't given it a physical button but it sits recessed inside the case. This is similar to how old style pre-iPhone 15 cases work. This may be good for some who worry about the Action Button being a button, but I have found it's hard to accidentally engage the action button so recessing it inside the case is just a little annoying. What I will say, as it's not obvious from the picture is the case DOES support Magsafe. It held on tight when attached to the magsafe adapter in my car and the 3rd party magsafe battery was rock solid and stable. If you're looking for a great case to protect your phone, that makes family selfies better, this is an excellent case.

Beautiful Silent Full RGB Mechanical Keyboard
on October 17, 2023
Posted by: teasten
The Corsair Core K70 Keyboard is simply beautiful wired keyboard. I know some people don't like wired keyboards, but I am one of the few that likes them (a wireless mouse is a different story). The cable is great length from my custom gaming rig that sits on the floor to my desk. The build quality is the usual Corsair quality - well made, satisfying weight (almost heavy), and great attention to detail, like the notch clicks as you adjust the volume dial on the top right of the keyboard. FYI, the volume control is a dial not a scroll type wheel that has been typical on many gaming keyboards The K70 has full RGB backlighting, all of which you can customize using Corsairs great iCue software. I think iCue is the best in the market for software controls of RGB lighting, which is why I also use Corsair for my CPU cooler. You can really go crazy with the RGB lighting and I will say that the colors are clear, solid, and even across the whole keyboard. But the real test is gaming. I found the K70 to be super responsive in gaming, the keys have good travel and for a mechanical keyboard it's whisper quiet. The "tap" sound is just the full keypress not a mechanical click - so if you are after a non-clicky mechanical keyboard that is wired, responsive, and you can have a lot of fun customizing the RGB. I will note, and the picture also notes this, the USB cable comes from the left side of the keyboard. Not an issue for me (my desktop sits on my left) but if you are obsessed about cable tidiness, worth knowing. The few things holding the K70 back from a perfect 5 is the USB cable is not braided, braided cables just fall better and are less prone to kinks, if the cable entry connect was centered it might make it better for everyone, and I wish the stand was height adjustable (it's either stand or no stand). I still think the K70 is awesome.

So much fun! Reality beats virtual reality!

Wow. The DJI Avata is amazing. I have the Mavic Air 2S and this just leaves it for dust. It's faster, smaller, can fly low at incredible speed, and well... I will go on! The Avata Pro View combo is different from other DJI's in that you fly using the Motion Controller and see using the Goggles. I'm not sure how earlier versions compared, so this is based on my personal experience.
Setup was a little slower than normal. You have to your phone connected via cable (USB C) to the Goggles, set them up, then pair (from memory) the drone, then controller. There is also the obligatory firmware update. I had a little complication calibrating the motion controller (calibration is done after pairing) and the touch controls on the goggles are sensitive and I accidentally restarted calibration twice - so take your time and go slow.
Despite the visuals on the website, there are a lot of cables involved. I wish some of the cables were longer and was lucky I was wearing a winter jacket with front pockets.
Once paired, flying was AMAZING. This knocks the Mavic out of the park. Watching through the Googles is immersive, and you really get a sense for the speed of the Avata, especially at low levels. The Motion Controller is intuitive and you feel like you're flying an aircraft (or as my son said, the experience is like pod racing). Video is stable, clear, the colors on the goggles do come across high contrast, making it feel video-game like (for me) but it's impossible to fault the latency given how fast and maneuverable the Avata is. One thing I will say about the Google is kudos to DJI, you can adjust pupil distance and focus of each lens - as someone who wears glasses I was worried I would need custom lenses, but DJI makes the Avata Goggles hassle free for glasses wearers.
Some thoughts on where the Avata could be better:
- USB C cable you connect to your phone could be longer (braided cable would be good)
- should come with a case, there's so many cords, cables, etc. you will need a case
- they should encourage you to setup at home inside first for firmware updates, etc.
- an extra battery would be great, as well as a belt clip for battery
- get yourself a 45w USB C charger to fast charge everything
These are minor things, although I do think the lack of a case is an oversight for a sophisticated unit like the Avata. Even my Mavic came with a case.
Final advice. Make sure you fly your drone safe. Get the FAA B4U Fly Up, pay your 3 year license fee, do the drone training (free) and get certified. The Avata is a LOT of fun and I joined a nearby flying club to get into drone racing. But if you don't have a club nearby, please still drone safe and responsibly.

Premium Quality at a great Price
on October 12, 2023
Posted by: teasten
Sometimes the fruit company drives me crazy. I have the new iPhone 15 USB C, but I have Airpod Pros that require a lightning. So I now need two cables. And I need both to plug in via USB C. The Insignia 4' USB C to Lightning cable fits that need and it works. But not only does it work, it also looks good and is made well - it's a nice silver color and it's braided cable makes it almost like what you would get from the fruit company. However what does stand out is it comes with a rubber cable tidy that is very well made. Not those velco style cables that tend to fall off and get lost, this is something that you will never lose. Plus, as a bonus - it's long enough that I can secure my iPhone USB C cable with the same cable tidy - solving two problems, I now have a lightning cable for my old AirPods Pro, and it keeps all my cables neat and tidy all the time. I will also say that the 4' length on the Insignia USB C to lightning cable is more than enough for my needs (from back of iMac to my desk) but if you need more length, I know Insignia have other lengths available. In summary, well made, great quality, great value.

Easy to Setup, Total Peace of Mind
on October 9, 2023
Posted by: teasten
The most important thing I want anyone who reads this review to know is just how EASY it was to setup the SimpliSafe system. It was effortlessly simple. I blocked out a whole day but had all devices paired in about an hour. The SimpliSafe mobile app is fantastic and it's the first time ever that things have just worked, paired, connected to my WiFi, etc. without an issue. I say all of this because I know the trepidation I had and I am surprised and happy with the setup experience, that on that alone, I would recommend the SimpliSafe system.
What's in the box (SimpliSafe 9pc Outdoor Security Kit)
- 1x Base Station, Connects Wirelessly, 24 hour battery backup, No Ethernet Required (or supported)
- 2x Cameras (Wireless)
- 4x Entry Sensors (Door/Window Open Sensors)
- 1x Motion Sensor
- 1x Keypad
Mounting tape, screws, USB cables, etc. There's also a yard sign and stickers for your windows.
Rechargeable devices (not including base station, which has it's own batter) charge via microUSB. The sensors use Lithium 2032 batteries, the Keypad uses AA batteries.
In terms of the build quality, everything feels well made, quality and not cheap. The SimpliSafe system feels and looks professional. The cameras are bigger and chunkier than I expected, but using them outdoors in all weather, I am guessing it's a trade off. I can't comment on battery life, SimplifSafe rate them for at least 3 months - so we'll see. Video quality is very good (1080p).
The base sttaion looks good, it's also the alarm (95db) and they encourage you to put it in the center of your home. I had no issues with WiFi connectivity and I run a mesh network.
What is important to know is that to get full features you need to have a SimpliSafe subscription to get all app features. There's free 30 day pro monitoring included (it's about $1 a day). The system works without pro monitoring but you lose features (cloud recording storage, which is important, cellular backup). The plus is that you can cancel anytime, which is what I think I'll do after 30 days - paying for a subscription when we're on vacation as my partner works from home most days.
Overall, I'm impressed. Easier to setup than expected, looks great and the kit has everything you need for the average small-medium home. There are add on products you can buy like video doorbells and water, smoke, glass breakage sensors - so you can literally do everything you need with one app and kit. Which is pretty cool and I checked out the prices and they're reasonable. So you can have the SimpliSafe ecosystem for everything.
If I have one criticism, maybe two... I wish the used USB C for the camera charging and the cameras are large. I'll give SimpliSafe a pass on the large cameras, as they also make a good visual deterrent. Definitely recommended, great app, easy to setup, and that extra peace of mind you need.

Fast Bulk Scanner, Complicated Setup
on October 4, 2023
Posted by: teasten
the TLDR; version is I have been on the fence for days between 3 and 4 stars. I am leaning towards 4 because I still can't shake the feeling that the setup was harder than it needed to be but given scanning was fast even on bulk, I can forgive the hard setup (just). How hard is setup? I'm technical and found myself reaching for the "Getting Started" card for the first time in many many years. In fact, I'm going to give advice up front - if you want to set the ES-C320W up quickly, download the EPSON Smart Panel App. Do not download software to your PC or Mac, as for me, the PC process kept getting stuck in a loop... on my phone though, I was able to connect to the Scanner, setup WiFi, and everything from then on was easy. But I wasted a good 30-45min before I decided to do a mobile only setup. And I only knew about mobile as I have a Epson printer I am fond of.
If you want to live the paper free life at work or home, you need a dedicated bulk document scanner. The reason why scanners like the Epson ES-C320W are blindingly fast, can read up to 20 pages at once and scans at a claimed 30ppm - and these claims seem similar to what I was experiencing in real time. I was able to scan some commercial legal documents, straight to PDF, in almost half the time that it would have taken on a printer. Plus as a desktop scanner, I could do this in my office without worrying I might leave something sensitive in the printer/copier room. Plus, if you have the mobile app, you scan directly to your phone.
In terms of size. The images on Best Buy don't do it justice, it's actually a small footprint and well design. The input document holder folders down neatly and when not in use, the Epson WorkForce ES-C320W doesn't look out of place on your desk (for those old enough to remember, it has the small footprint you would see in a very compact portable inkjet printer).
I will say (and another reason for the 4 stars, which was almost 3 starts) is Epson is very zealous with the packing tape that secures everything during shipping. I actually was anxious the first time I scanned as I feared I missed on the pieces of bright blue tape. Tip, you need to open the front panel to be sure you have removed all the secure blue packing tape. Epson should number the tape it so you can be sure you got everything. Again, remember to open the front panel to remove the hidden protection packing.
Overall - setup is complicated, but once you get that done - WiFi connection was stable, scanning is fast, even on bulk documents, scans were clean, colors were very good, and you can output to PDF.

Incredible Thermals, Fast, Quiet, Gaming Laptop
on September 30, 2023
Posted by: teasten
Dell has delivered something incredible - the G15 is the first gaming laptop I have used that runs cool and quiet. I am in disbelief - even during setup with BIOS and all the Microsoft Windows updates the G15 barely made a sound. It's literally quieter than the Windows laptop I have for work - so getting this kind of quiet on a gaming laptop is mind blowing.
The specs are amazing, 13th Gen i7 and an RTX4050 which makes the thermals even more impressive. The DDR5 RAM is a little less than I would expect for gaming PC (8GB) but you can buy 32GB for under $100 on BestBuy. I'm not sure how easy it is to open and change, as not willing to take that risk, but Dell's website does say you can upgrade.
In terms of gaming performance. I am getting consist 120fps+ on Ultra settings across a variety of games (Overwatch, Fortnite, Assassins Creed). This is Amazing! The 120hz screen is clean, no bleed, keyboard responsive but the touchpad is not great. It's not very responsive to button presses and the click is underwhelming. I would strongly recommend getting and using an external gaming mouse. The keyboard is very good though, decent travel and WASD'ing away on games was no problem.
Design wise, I'm going to say again, the thermal temps mean Dell has done something smart with the design. There are top, bottom, rear, and side cooling ports. The rear vents have an burnt-orange metallic color. There is no RGB but the keyboard is backlit a soft orange. It lights evenly and almost looks like the keys have a natural orange. The lid is not shiny but did attract fingerprints. The power supply is huge (330W) and the plug inserts in the rear, which is smart - a few laptop manufacturers make the mistake of having it come in on the side and end up blocking ports.
In terms of ports. you get:
3 x USB A (2 are side mounted, 1x rear)
1 x USB C (rear)
1 x Network
1 x Headphone
1 x HDMI (full size! yay!)
I'd love an extra USB C but I am probably just being needy.
I've attached some benchmarks to this review. 3DMark TimeSpy score is 9109, but look at the thermals staying under 90F. That's impressive for a laptop. UserBenchmark scores give a Gaming Score of 119%, Desktop of 106%, and Workstation of 131%. Graphics is 114% (Outstanding) and even getting into details on the NVMe, it's getting 313% - Dell has seriously optimized this.
Overall. Amazing gaming laptop. Great speed and performance but also very quiet and doesn't run hot. Plenty of ports for any gaming peripheral. I would recommend the G15 laptop to any gamer. Just budget for a mouse (trackpad could be better) and maybe a RAM upgrade at some point.

Meet the Logitech Pebble i345. It takes your iPad to higher places with a level of precision and control you can’t get with a tablet alone. Use it to click, scroll, and control your workflow like never before. It’s small, portable, and comfortable—so you can keep exploring, wherever you go.

What difference is there between the Pebble M350, M355, and the most recent i345. As I understand the M350 is the first version, the M355 is the second version, both are compatible with various operating systems including IPadOS, and the i345 only iPadOS

I picked up the i345. It doesn't have a Logitech Nano receiver. I can't speak for the other mice, but the i345 is Bluetooth only. It does work happily with my iPad Pro.

This Nutri Ninja blender preserves freshness so you can store and enjoy smoothies up to eight hours.

Does this work with frozen fruits and vegetables?

I have the 72Oz Ninja Professional and have used it on frozen fruit without any problem. I can't imagine it would have an issue with frozen vegetables, it's blending ice without any issue.

Can you ship to London and is shipping still free?

I don't work for Best Buy but I wouldn't ever ship US Electrical Appliances to the UK. You use a different power system, so if you plug it in it's the best way to explode appliance or injure yourself.

Stream HD content anywhere with this Miroir SYNQ mini projector. The powerful LED lamp projects bright, detailed images in native 720p resolution, and a 5W speaker adds accurate audio to your viewing experience. This Miroir SYNQ mini projector offers up to 3 hours of use per charge and includes an AC adapter for battery-free streaming.

How do you stream videos to your projector?

Plug in a streaming stick. I use mine with a ROKU streaming stick. But you could use a Chromecast or any streaming stick that plugs into HDMI and is powered by USB.

How to upgrade hdd ?? I need guidance

I just upgraded my harddrive (SSD and added a 2.5" drive). No responsibility accepted if you ruin your laptop. This is what I did.

1. Remove the power cable.
2. Turn laptop over.
3. Remove all visible screws from the underside of the laptop.
4. Use a guitar pick or similar to pry open the bottom case.
5. The NVME/SSD drive is located under the metal protective slots.
If you want to add a 2.5" drive, you need the included ribbon cable. It connects near the battery (see my review or attached picture).

No need to adjust bios settings, it's all autodetected and updates automatically.

Is this Linksys -Velop compatible with Verizon Fios equipment? Everything does not work with Verizon - Fios equipment.

Yes, I got this working with FIOS. There's some great tips and advice on reddit for setting up MESH WiFi with FiOS. You need to setup FiOS as a MOCA bridge. This guide is a good place to start. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fios/comments/7xb9yz/new_to_fios_can_you_confirm_this_setup_with_moca/

Only @ Best BuyListen to music with this sweat- and dust-resistant wireless Jabra Elite headset. It connects via USB, mini-jack or Bluetooth, and a powerful microphone lets you use voice commands with your mobile device. This Jabra Elite headset reduces background noise and has a built-in motion sensor that lets you track fitness efforts.

Does each earbud have controls? Can both sides be used independently of each other, or can only one side be used independently, or must they always be used as a pair?

Yes. But the controls are different on each side. Right side is for music pause, call answer, etc. Left side is for volume control, skipping tracks. You don't have to use as a pair, but only the right side has a microphone (from my tests).
