Great for watching TV remotely....anywhere !

I use this to view my DTV set top box in my den(saves cost of another receiver) and at my daughter's house a mile away. But, you can use this effectively ANYWHERE as it is transmitted via internet. For that reason, if your internet is slow, there is a chance for dropouts requiring you to reset the slingbox. The UPLOAD speed matters at the site where the Slingbox is located and the DOWNLOAD speed matters at the site that is receiving the signal.
Very compact (wife likes) and can be used with any of 5 connected devices. Only ONE person can use at the time....more than one can watch but they must be watching the SAME thing. For that reason, I have a receiver dedicated exclusively for Slingbox use. The connected device (receives the Slingbox signal) uses Slingplayer to view what is sent by Slingbox. 2 devices require a one time $14.99 purchase of the Slingplayer app (Apple Tv and Roku 3) while the remaining 3 devices have this app built in (WD Tv Live,Netgear Tv and Sony Tv with Google). Really like Roku 3 ...it has a ton of different apps BUT it requires you to send through your iPhone or Andriod to your tv. This disables the phone while watching. I hear they are working on an "update" to solve this. The WD TV Live has the slingplayer app built in (no $14.99 purchase required) but doesn't have nearly the number of apps as the Roku 3. You can also use Apple Tv to stream from Slingbox.

Long review but hopefully this gives some answers to questions I ending up having to research and have answered. It has it's quirks but is still a great way to stream to another location...lakehouse, vacation location etc.

What is the difference between the sling box 350 and 500.
Slingbox 350 has Wifi and HDMI ( I believe) whereas the 350 requires an actual ethernet hardwire and uses component cables (3 video and 2 audio). The Wifi can be touchy I understand, the hardwire may be the better idea. In any case....INTERNET performance matters.

Can I use the Slinbox 350 to connect via internet to my Direct TV subscription via internet if I don't have the DirectTV equipment on the house?
Can I use the Slingbox 350 at my house with internet and no tv service to connect to my direct tv subscription at my vacation cabin with Direct TV service and equipment? The vacation cabin does not have internet. It is 150 miles away.
No internet....NO SLINGBOX !!! So, no it is not possible. You must have INTERNET on both ends.....attached to the Directv receiver and must have a compatible box - Roku,Neo Tv, WD TV Live etc. to receive the signal.
So, really the Slingbox connected to the DTV receiver is using INTERNET to connect the 2 locations . It uploads the DTV receiver content/package and then using one of the aforementioned boxes downloads to the remote location.

I want to know if I can see Japan tv
Yes, if the Slingbox is connected to a set top box in Japan, then my understanding is that you could receive that signal anywhere with a connected streaming device ( 5 available).

How can an internet connected HDTV connect to a Slingbox 350 in another state?
Do I have to buy a set top box that connects via the internet to the slingbox 350 in another state to be able to watch it on an HDTV even if that TV is internet enabled?
Your set top box (cable,Directv or Dish) hooks to your Slingbox to send the signal to a connected streaming device in another state even country. So, first you must have the set top box just like you would have to have to watch programming on your home tv. Then you are connecting the Slingbox to that set top box. At the other end, you have one of the 5 connected streaming devices receiving the signal (Roku 3,Apple TV, WD TV Live, Netgear or Sony TV with Google internet).
