I tried the off-brand cartridges. Several didn't work (although the vendor said he would replace them), a few worked but the colors weren't up the quality of the HP. So pay a little more and get quality that you can depend on.

Like the operation very much. Had to replace the 1st one because the lower door hinge was bent. Replacement unit was dented (not by Best Buy but by the warehouse). Third unit had a dent on the bottom of the freezer door. NOT dented by Best Buy as the unit still had the factory wrapping on it. So we swapped the 1st units' door with the 3rd units' door and all is fine.
KUDOS to Best Buy for all the help getting this straightened out. Don't know about other area stores but we have a really good one in Hickory. As reported by other reviewers, it sometimes comes on with a "popcorn" sound for a few seconds, then runs quiet. Doesn't bother me but could be a problem if it was within hearing range of a bedroom.

A very good buy for use in school and general on-line use. Priced right (got it on sale), fast processor, plenty of memory, not too heavy to carry around campus or while traveling. Good feel to the keyboard. Would like to have longer battery life but that is a limit on most all laptops.
