HomeKit integration which makes it Shine
on March 1, 2024
Posted by: TVProducer
The Aqara G4 Smart Video Doorbell is such a sleek solution to the smart doorbell at a reasonable cost. Starting with installation its a breeze and easy. Best part is the ability to hardwire power to it and use the batteries as backup if you want constant reliability! I would caution you to set up the device with batteries PRIOR to mounting. This ensure you can see angles of the camera at different heights. The vertical FOV can be your enemy in seeing faces at your door if mounted too low. Functionally it does exactly as you would home with impressive low latency. When paired with other devices within the Aqara ecosystem such as the smart lock you can really make this doorbell shine. Setup is a breeze and doesn't take too long. The chime is loud and brilliant. If you don't like the chime... change it to what you want or even off if you want your phone or apple device to do the work. The integration with HomeKit is so nice and easy. As someone who loves the Apple Ecosystem the integration into it makes playback and access to the device easy. If I were to complain a bit the playback and video recordings function sometime cause issues outside of the Aqara application. However for the immediate use case of live playback and quick basic access it does exactly as it should! I have to spend a bit more time on HomeKit with the G4 when it comes to logic based triggers such as motion detection and recording. The resolution of the Camera is acceptable both day and night. It is not the sharpest video in the doorbell industry but it doesn't need to be. If you need a screenshot of someone's face on you doorstep to provide to police, this will certainly do the job. Keep in mind if you are using the iCloud feature that is going to cost more $ on the apple side based on the amount of secure cameras you are using. Overall another great product to add to the Aqara Ecosystem!

Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 uses cutting-edge millimeter-wave radar technology, which can accurately detect the presence of people even with slight movements. This technology ensures continuity and stability of the smart device. It also has the function of zone positioning, which allows for the automation of different conditions in different zones, such as beds and tables. One space can now be divided into up to 30 small zones and recognize up to five targets (Multi-person Detection). It can also control other smart home devices through ecosystems such as Apple Home to achieve wider applications. It features functions such as human fall recognition, sleep monitoring and a built-in light sensor. Likewise, it is a great helper that can truly combine the diversity of the user's home life and realize the automation of different personalities.

Your gateway to entire home automation!
on March 1, 2024
Posted by: TVProducer
So first off before I begin this review let me be clear, this product is designed for people who truly want to dive into home automation or even commercial office automation. It takes a lot of planning and logic to figure out what use case you want to achieve with the FP2 Presence sensor. However, if you know what you want to do with it, it is arguably one of the most powerful tools for home automation. Installation is beyond easy with this device and you can put it wherever you really want. The guts of this product comes in on the backend of programming it. The accuracy of the FP2 is impressive. It can even count the amount of bodies in the area. Some of the tests I worked in were basic lighting zones and triggers, but also more complex situations to test how far this product could go based on IF/ELSE types of logic. If there are X people in the room - do this. If there are less than... you get the idea. Big time useful if you have the ability to integrate into your heating/cooling solution in your household. Do you need the air conditioner blaring full blast with 1 person? Nah. OK FP2 will facilitate that. Now 5 people are there.... let's crank it up. Honestly I haven't had all the time in the world to test how far this device can go but my automation seems truly endless at this rate!!

A quality Reliable and Failsafe Lock!
on March 1, 2024
Posted by: TVProducer
Firstly I have to say I'm truly shocked at the results of this smart lock. I recently inherited a building from my family which I plan on having an Airbnb in and thought this would be the perfect product to test the Aqara Ecosystem. Installation of the lock was a breeze and didn't take much though or effort. Configuration of the lock isn't too bad, if you are slightly technologically advanced you'll pick it up pretty quickly. Now what matters most is functionality. First off the ability to create specific passcodes and users on the lock is beyond useful when dealing with an Airbnb. I know my contractor, cleaners, and tentants all have access but only specific people have specific access at specific times. The tenants I can set up a timeframe the lock works for them and ensure disables when they check out. The one hope I have is that there will be third party integrates with management platforms where it soon will just create the keys and interface with the Aqara platform and save a step. That's a huge nice to have and doesn't contribute to the overall rating. The lock interfaces well with the doorbell for remote unlock with the hub as well for the times you need to unlock a spur the moment visitor. The lock works well with Apple HomeKit and NFC/Bluetooth that it truly is as easy as tapping your phone just like ApplePay. Simply put, this product is reliable and secure and don't worry a lockout or battery dying is not end all be all as it has external USB-C to repower the device and a mechanical key override for reentry.

Elgato Knocks it Out of the Park Again
on February 24, 2024
Posted by: TVProducer
Elgato has a chokehold on the industry when it comes to capture card technology. Simply put it is the truth. This new product, the 4K X 4K144 HDR10 is a wild step up in the game of capture card technology especially from the standpoint of a content creator. Frame Rates/Refresh rates are very key when engaging in gameplay that requires quick reflexes and reactions such as (Insert your favorite first person shooter here). Elgato has stepped up the game when it comes to that. Along with the fact now you can capture 4:4:4 in certain resolutions not sacrificing anything is astounding. Mind you it will take you a few minutes to figure out what the device allows and does not allow.
Right now in 4K you can do 120FPS which is more than acceptable. If you lower the resolution to 2K then you get a higher refresh rate. Mind you that your PC needs to support USB-C 3.2 Spec to get the full features of this device. You can use a USB-A to C cable using a 3.0 spec port but you are going to sacrifice capture frame rate allowed due to the bandwidth the device requires.
Overall I am still doing a lot of testing with this but if you want a device that gives you everything and the kitchen sink when it comes to capture cards you need look no further than this device. I was beyond impressed how easy the setup was and how amazing the capture quality was. Elgato... you've exceeded expectations once again!

Small Speakers that pack a PUNCH
on January 17, 2024
Posted by: TVProducer
After having some time to test the Razer Nommo V2 Full-Range 2.1 PC Gaming Speakers I have plenty to go off of regarding testing benchmarks that I conducted.
First off, to start the frequency response is impressive. 40hz to 20kHz is a pretty wide range for a small speaker of this magnitude. Granted the subwoofer certainly helps the range avoiding falloff in the lows. The depth of sound is clear when you first start listening to music carefully on these speakers. You'll hear parts of music you may not have noticed before with speakers that cannot get to these low ranges. The highs are easy. Lows are hard. There was certainly a deeper feel of immersion in the speakers when utilizing the THX Spatial audio. They do an impressive job with the virtual 7.1 surround considering the small form factor of these speakers. Don't expect a true 7.1 surround experience as you would with a true home theater experience but you can expect it to help you especially if you are into games that require spatial sound, such as COD or Overwatch. The bass quality is pretty solid for the unit and nothing to complain about with a down-firing sub that makes your feet rumble. Use caution if people live below you and you like bass though. It will be heard from the floor below.
The price point is spot on for a product of this caliber and bravo to Razer for releasing such a quality audio product as that is not their bread and butter

A Quality Fast SSD Lacking Random Read/Write Power
on January 8, 2024
Posted by: TVProducer
This crucial T500 2TB SSD to the naked eye is a contender to lead the market on read and write speeds per their specifications and testing using CrystalDisk as a benchmarking test. I was expecting to be able to get 7400Mb/s Sequential Read, which was met, 7000Mb/s Sequential Write which it met, and a random read/write of 1,180 / 1,440 mb/s which unfortunately also fell short of in a significant manner. When I ran CrystalDisk on a fresh installation, no files on the SSD, and disabling memory integrity in Windows, the random read write just performed abysmally. I was getting about 570 mb/s Random Read, and 350 mb/s random write. That is far below the expected performance of 1,180 and 1,440. I am happy to see that the sequential read and write was spot on specification as that is what matters most with an SSD. Most tasks executed on an SSD are in sequential manner, especially if using as a secondary drive for gaming/media storage. The actions are more sequential and predictable. However if you plan on using this drive as a boot drive that is where I would personally have some concerns because as soon as you start attempting to open multiple programs and files at once on the SSD thats where the random needs to kick in and you will see a slight performance drop. Granted to most this test specification will not be noticable to most except to those power users. This is a great drive for gaming and media storage but just do your research about random read/write before committing to using as a boot drive.

A Powerhouse with a few minor drawbacks
on December 22, 2023
Posted by: TVProducer
First off - This Alienware m18 FHD+ Gaming Laptop is the top of the line of options on the market at this point. With the specifications alone this machine should draw a gaming addict's eye. I will break down the laptop in multiple different categories to analyze piece by piece where this machine shines and where this machine fell short.
Physical: This machine is not an easy portable laptop. It is beefy and picking it up you know that this machine packs a punch alone, however what would you expect from a machine that has the power of a full size tower all condensed into one sleek design? The keyboard is full size with a num pad which I enjoy a lot especially doing a lot of data and number entry I am not hunting and pecking at the top line numbers.
Display: The display is gorgeous and can truly deny ambient light behind you so that you can still be productive and not struggle to see the screen. The screen is bright and the resolution crisp. As for the refresh rate, you will not see a noticeable difference unless you are using this game in a high-demand fast passed game like a shooter. That is where the refresh rate shines. I felt like I had a beautiful sized display and was on the same tier of refresh as professional gamers where every cycle matters to their eyes!
Thermal Management: Thermals has always been a difficult problem to solve within gaming laptops. You have so many components shoved into one place it is hard to figure out a way to displace the heat without overheating the other components or burning the user. Somehow this m18 line has bridged that gap. When playing COD MW3 at Full Ultra Settings the graphics card was not even sweating. The fans spun up and quickly kept it cool but you could certainly feel the heat out of the side vents coming out. The difference was, if your hand is a foot away you wouldn't even feel it. The thermal displacement out of the vent is roughly 4-6" anything further you'd only know its running hot because of the fan speed. The fans aren't astoundingly loud but when they are working overtime, you know it.
Multitasking Performance: There isn't much to say. This machine can handle whatever you throw at it. Autocad? Yup. Adobe Suite products? No problem. Multiple things at once... Mhmmm. It just does not struggle in the least.
Battery Life: As expected. If you are not running high intensity applications the computer will hold a charge for about 3 hours and change. If you are running a intense shooter game tasking the GPU it'll drain quickly and you'll be lucky to get 90 minutes out of it, much less 60. This is where the Power Supply comes in. This thing is BIG. I'm talking the size of a brick. It draws a heck of a lot of power from the wall but charges the machine relatively quickly.
Software / Drivers / Loaded Image: This is why a star was removed from my review. The biggest issue once I turned on the machine and booted into Windows was the drivers of the graphics card. For some reason the AMD Adrenline version which loads drivers and monitors system performance and options was the wrong version. I only found this out after loading COD MW3 and continually got Crash To Desktop issues. After some research I discovered that the software loaded onto the machine was the wrong software, I had to do a clean install of everything and clean out the previous drivers. Then you have AMD's SmartGraphics.... which work well... with some applications. It can cause issues with display drivers if the program you run has to sideload itself to run itself in another mode... this is something COD MW3 does when you switch from Multiplayer to Campaign. Not a huge issue as I like how SmartGraphics work otherwise. This issue is more on a program side of things not AMD. It is something to consider when getting everything set up on this machine. It's easy to disable into Hybrid mode so you don't have to deal with it causing CTDs on those applications.
Overall this is a fantastic gaming PC and will be my portable workhorse when I am travelling and just in the mindset to play some games or do video editing on the road. It's an investment for sure, but one that you will be glad you made

A Quality Dashcam Reliant on the Subscription
on November 7, 2023
Posted by: TVProducer
First off do not be mislead by the way I titled my review. The Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dashcam with 4G/GPS is an incredible product in many ways which far outweigh the cons of the subscription model. Firstly let's talk Field of View and Quality. This dashcam can perfectly capture the entire front of your car's area and your entire car's cabin while not sacrificing any audio either. The night vision is quite impressive to say the least for a dashcam of this caliber and it doesn't give up much detail in the dead of night. The quality of the design video and audio is second to none.
The features in this dashcam are top tier and impressive to say the least. Firstly this dashcam is 4G enabled, that means that you can at any time access this dash camera without being in or near the car. The alerts are almost instantaneous to your smartphone and very easy to playback. I had my car in the shop for some work and was able to easily connect and check the dashcam playback and even live as they did work. Gives a bit of big brother vibes, I know, but making sure my car isn't going somewhere it shouldn't or (insert paranoid car owner horror story here) is important. The Smart Sense Parking works EXTREMELY well... I'd say possibly too well. Every time I got back in my car it triggered an alert of a Parking Event, even before I opened the door. Now, when away from your car, its amazing. When coming back to your car every single time getting a push notification can get a bit annoying but that is no fault of the product. You just know it works well.
Let's talk about the main cons I have, the Protect Plus feature set as I mentioned is absolutely incredible however that feature set comes with a ~$200/Year (or $17 a month if you divide by 12) price tag. That is a steep investment in the subscription model for a dash cam. Granted, you are given a lot of features once you pay it. However, if you choose to go with the Free tier, expect that 90% of the features of this dashcam become locked out to you. When purchasing this unit it’s important to be sure to factor in the cost of that subscription as an operating cost along with the capital cost of the camera itself. For me the $200.00 subscription is worth the price tag for what you get, but if you are looking for a non-cloud-based product this may not be the product for you as it highly relies on the cloud to function along with the 4G connectivity, which again, is included in that subscription. Case Study… if you live in an area where car theft is rampant, wouldn’t it be great to open your phone and show the police a picture of the guy who stole your car, and a live video of him jamming out to Taylor Swift as he tries to get away with your vehicle including his GPS location? That scenario, although funny, is exactly where this product shines. Someone stealing your car may not think it’s a camera that is connected live to the cloud… furthermore, if they see that dashcam, they may think twice of taking it for a joyride.
If you want the highest tech dashcam that is on the market today with AI technology, cloud-based replay, and a slew of other impressive features you can look no further than the iQ 4K. However, if you only want local recording (to an SD Card), and basic peace of mind when it comes to a Dash Cam, the Nextbase, may be a bit much for your liking because you are wasting 90% of the features if you don't want to subscribe to the additional feature set.

DJI Continues to Impress with the Action 4
on October 27, 2023
Posted by: TVProducer
DJI without a doubt has learned their lesson from the days of the DJI Osmo Action 2. When the Action 3 came out I was thrilled. It performed better, had additional features, a better mounting system, and truly came to market as a competitive product. The Osmo Action 4 continues that mentality adding onto the feature set and success of the Action 3.
First let's talk Battery. Now the Batteries from the action 3 are compatible with the Action 4. Thats huge. Why? Batteries are expensive but DJI understands their customer base and the last thing we want to do is have an older model camera that doesn't allow for interchangable batteries. Secondly, fast charging. You can charge this battery insanely fast. Testing it I was able to drain a battery throw it into the charger and unplug 30 minutes later and I had something around 85 percent battery back. Do you understand how key that is. Picture this... you are out in the Rockies skiing or snowboarding, you drain your 3 batteries with all the awesome footage you've captured from shredding down the mountain. So 3 hours of footage but now a storm has rolled in. You gotta get this on film. How? Dead batteries. Go to the lodge plug it in and have lunch. 45 minutes to an hour later your batteries are GOOD TO GO. That's huge. Good on DJI
Sensor talk - Tech Geeks rejoice 1/1.3 Sensor is much larger with a 2.8 aperture. Why do we care. This camera is beyond impressive in low light now. The camera even knows (if enabled) to enable low light mode and reduces noise. Its a MASSIVE difference now from its predecessor. If you record in lower light this is a game changer for the Action series.
Temperature tests. The Action 4 continues to be able to function in higher heats and lower climates. I haven't been able to test in the field in the Rockies skiing just yet but throwing this thing in a freezer for an hour seemed to have no effect on its performance. Direct heat inside a car - same result handled it like a champ.
Overall I can't say enough about DJI's impressive continuation of the Action line and if you are looking for a perfect gift or perfect action camera this is the product go-to!

A Solid Wireless Gaming Solution for On-The-Go
on September 9, 2023
Posted by: TVProducer
As someone whose career takes them travelling worldwide it is common that I live out of a suitcase with my gaming computer. Now gaming on the go poses its own challenges. You rarely will have a comfortable ergonomic experience gaming on a laptop especially when it comes to the keyboard. Look no further, the Pro X TKL Lightspeed is here to solve the issue. First off, kudos to Logitech for including a carrying case. They knew their audience and target users.... those who are on the go. Now this keyboard is light. I was honestly shocked how light it was but still had the feel of a great quality build for a keyboard. The pairing and responsiveness after a quick firmware update was right in line with competing products. I was able to play typical multiplayer shooters without keyboard responsiveness issues, thankfully.
I didn't give this a full 5 stars however because of the price point to market and in my humble opinion the lack of creativity of the keyboard. Don't get me wrong. This is a solid product. It works great. The carrying case was a great idea and great add, however, the market is saturated with similar products at this point which compete with the Pro X TKL. Specific thing to focus on are the keyboard switch design. Doing a bit of research will tell you a lot of what each switch can provide you, even if you are new to the space. Logitech is a great company for peripherals but when you are in the gaming space going the extra mile can be the deciding purchase factor.

Watch movies or the big game with this VIZIO HDR smart TV. The screen measures 74.5 inches diagonally so everyone in the room can view content clearly. With Apple AirPlay and HomeKit compatibility, you can use Siri to send photos and videos from your devices. This VIZIO HDR smart TV features 4K resolution for vivid images and sharp details, while the 240ms refresh rate allows for high frame rates.

how far apart are the tv legs and can they be moved closer together

They are about 5 to 6 inches from each edge of the screen for the slots that the legs go in. However, They only go in one way and cannot be reversed. Youll need significant table real estate for it to work.

Safeguard your home with this Arlo security camera system. Its 4K resolution provides maximum clarity so you don't miss a single detail, and a siren is integrated so you can fend off intruders either remotely or while at home. This Arlo security camera system is weather-resistant, so it's functional rain or shine.

Do the Ultra cameras have improved motion detection compared to the Pro 2? I currently get false alerts when the Pro 2 detects shadows from tree limbs. I would like to upgrade only if the Ultra has improved motion detection.

I believe so. You can set your motion zones and it seems like their AI improves the more it is running as it is able to learn the usual parameters of the frame. For example, I don't get alerts with my air conditioner from audio triggers because it has learned that it is a standard in the space.
