I really like this remote for watching streamed shows from Netflix, HBOGO, etc. It's much more user friendly than the regular game controller for video viewing functions.

Great sound from a small package
on June 9, 2015

I bought this about one month ago for my bedroom. It produces great sound for its small speaker size. It's a vast improvement over the built-in speakers of my TV. It looks nice and simple sitting in my bedroom entertainment console/bookshelf without taking up too much space. The Acoustimass module tucks nicely into a the corner of my bedroom although it is a little bigger compared to the compact subwoofer of my older 2.1 system made by another well-known electronics company. I thought about buying the next model up, the CineMate 120, but I realized I didn't really need the control console with HDMI switching for an extra $500 although the wireless Acoustimass module of the CineMate 120 would have been nice. I think this would be best suited for a bedroom or an apartment... Not sure how well it would work for a large living space or entertainment room. All-in-all, I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade his or her movie/TV watching experience that doesn't want a traditional multiple speaker (e.g., 5.1, 7.1, etc.) surround sound system.

Great sound and features from a small receiver

Verified Purchase:Yes
This is my first Marantz A/V receiver, and I love it so far. I've had it for almost two weeks now. I still own a Denon A/V receiver that I bought five years ago that cost approximately $1000 more than this receiver. (In case you didn't know, Marantz and Denon are owned by the same manufacturing company, D&M Holdings.) Due to my lack of attention to the dimensions of my new entertainment center when I ordered it, I quickly found out that I really needed a smaller A/V receiver than the massive Denon receiver that I already owned. Thus, when I saw that Marantz had made a line of "slim" A/V receivers, I was quite interested in buying one. Fortunately, I researched that they were releasing the NR1605 this July, so I opted to wait for it rather than to buy the older NR1604 right away. Initially, I was worried that I might be losing quality due to the price difference between my Denon receiver and this Marantz receiver; but then again, technology and manufacturing has improved a lot over the past five years... Thus, when I compared the basics such as power handling, etc., the two receivers were very comparable. The Marantz receiver, obviously being newer, has upgrades such as more HDMI inputs as well as 4K capabilities and built-in wireless and bluetooth. One thing I honestly never liked about my Denon receiver was that setup was very cumbersome in regard to assigning the HDMI inputs (and I consider myself pretty tech savvy). This Marantz receiver makes setup a breeze... I had my PS4, Wii, AppleTV, and cable box up and running in literally minutes. The online music function, which allows Apple AirPlay as well as access to internet radio such as Pandora, is also a very nice feature that I use quite frequently. In regard to performance, it sounds great for both movies and music. Although one other reviewer commented that it doesn't seem to have the same power per channel as larger receivers, I honestly can't tell a difference between this receiver and my larger, slightly more powerful Denon receiver. I have it hooked up to a Bowers & Wilkins 5.1 speaker setup (CM10 towers, CMC2 center channel, CM5 surrounds, and ASW10CM subwoofer). Of note, I have my front speakers bi-amped, so I have not tried the multi-zone function of this receiver and cannot comment on how well that works. I also have not tried setting up the iOS app on my iPhone yet, but based on the other reviewer as well as the app rating in the app store, it doesn't seem like it's worth much. However, in conclusion, if you're looking for a small, but powerful do-it-all A/V receiver, I highly recommend buying this receiver.

AudioQuest Rocket 33 Bi-Wire is an award-winning speaker cable that boasts an unrivaled combination of performance and value. Appropriate for biwirable speaker systems and terminated with high-quality silver-plated banana plugs, AudioQuest Rocket 33 Bi-Wire is a versatile high-performance speaker cable resolving enough for high-end audio systems, durable enough for studio use, and practical enough for most home entertainment systems. Rocket 33 uses a carefully finessed combination of AudioQuest’s Solid Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) and Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors in a Double Star-Quad configuration designed to reduce distortion for cleaner, clearer, more naturally detailed sound. Further, Rocket 33 features AudioQuest’s effective Carbon-Based Noise-Dissipation, and, as with all AudioQuest cables, the conductors in Rocket 33 are Direction-Controlled to minimize the damaging effects of radio-frequency noise. Whenever possible, running separate cables to the treble and bass portions of a biwireable loudspeaker significantly reduces distortion. For these applications, an AudioQuest cable like Rocket 33 Bi-Wire keeps the large magnetic fields associated with bass energy out of the treble cable, allowing the delicate upper frequencies to travel a less disturbed path, like taking the waves out of the water when you swim. The result is smoother, clearer, more natural sound. With its thoughtful, time-tested combination of high-quality materials and design elements, AudioQuest Rocket 33 is an outstanding choice for all types of music, movies, and listening environments.

High quality speaker cable

I'm using these speaker cables to connect my new Marantz NR1605 A/V receiver to my B&W CM10 tower speakers and B&W CM5 bookshelf (surround) speakers. I bought two sets of these 10' cables as well as a single 8' cable for my B&W CMC2 center channel. So far, I'm very happy with these cables. They seem very well-made. Granted, no one really sees them, so appearance isn't really a huge issue, but they do look very nice and add a professional look to my home theater setup. Plugging them into the back of my receiver and speakers was easy with the banana style connectors. When it was all said and done I spent approximately $1000 on speaker cables and a subwoofer cable. I didn't take time to compare what my speakers would have sounded like with traditional speaker wire. However, everything sounds great... whether that's due more to the fact that I bought expensive speakers, or that I invested in good speaker cables, I honestly don't know... Most likely, it's a combination of both. I did do a lot of research prior to taking the plunge in buying all these Audio-Quest cables, and audiophiles say that good speaker cables really do make a difference... and comparing prices of the Rocket 33 series to some of the super high-line Audio-Quest products, $1000 seems like a bargain for my entire 5.1 system.

Amazing as expected from B&W

This center channel speaker sounds absolutely amazing. I've paired this center channel speaker with the B&W CM10 tower speakers, the B&W CM5 bookshelf speakers (for surround channels), and the B&W ASW10CM subwoofer for a complete 5.1 home theater setup. I based my purchase of the larger CMC2 (6 1/2" woofers, 3-way) over the smaller CMCC (5" woofers, 2-way) on the fact that the majority (~60-80% of a movie’s soundtrack) comes primarily through the center channel followed by the front channels. That is also why I bought the larger CM10 tower speakers over the smaller CM8 tower speakers. It is well worth the extra money for the larger CMC2. Dialogue from movies and television is crystal clear. It also has dual binding posts, which allow it to be bi-amped, or have it connected to your A/V receiver via a single speaker cable such as the Audio-Quest Rocket 33 speaker cable that divides into separate low and high frequency outputs for each of the left and right channels. I highly recommend this center channel speaker (and matching fronts and surrounds) for your home theater setup. You will not be disappointed.

Great speaker stands for the B&W CM5 speakers

These are heavy-duty speaker stands that pair perfectly with the B&W CM5 bookshelf speakers. There are pre-drilled holes in the mounting plate that fit the M6 screw holes in the bottom of the CM5 speakers, making for a secure fit for the speakers. In addition, I filled them with sand as recommended, which also added extra stability and sound dampening. I highly recommend these stands for anyone buying the CM5 speakers.

Great surround speakers as expected from B&W

I've paired these speakers with the B&W CM10 tower speakers, the B&W CMC2 center channel speaker, and the B&W ASW10CM subwoofer for a complete 5.1 home theater setup. Although the rear surround channels are the least utilized component of any surround sound (e.g., Dolby Digital, DTS) soundtrack, I have to say that these speakers make the presence of those rear surround channel sound effects known. I've also utilized them in an all stereo surround mode when listening to music through my 5.1 channel receiver, and I feel they would make great bookshelf speakers for those who just want to listen to some music. Another nice thing about these speakers that isn't mentioned in the item description is that they have M6 screw holes on the bottom of the speakers that were designed to specifically fit the mounting plate of the B&W D61S 24" speaker stands, which I also purchased and would highly recommend if you buy these speakers.

I bought this speaker cable to use with my Bowers & Wilkins CMC2 center channel speaker as the speaker has four binding posts making it suitable to be bi-amped, or to have a speaker cable such as this divide the left and right center channel outputs from an A/V receiver into separate low and high frequency cables for each left and right input into the speaker. The cable itself seems very well-constructed, and it has a very nice look to it... Granted, no one really sees the cable.

Bass-thumping with B&W

I've paired this subwoofer with the B&W CM10 tower speakers, the B&W CMC2 center channel speaker, and the B&W CM5 bookshelf speakers (for surround channels) for a complete 5.1 home theater setup. This subwoofer produces clear, hard-hitting bass that adds extra depth to my movie-watching experience. Unfortunately, I live in a townhouse and share walls with neighbors, so I don't even have the volume up as loud as recommended; however, it still sounds amazing. On a side note, I connect my receiver to the subwoofer using the Audio-Quest Irish Red subwoofer cable.

Amazing as expected from B&W

These speakers sound absolutely amazing. I've paired them with the B&W CMC2 center channel speaker, the B&W CM5 bookshelf speakers (for surround channels), and the B&W ASW10CM subwoofer for a complete 5.1 home theater setup. Initially, I was trying to decide whether to go with the smaller CM series that use the 5" woofers rather than the 6 1/2" woofers to save some money. However, I opted for the larger CM10 speakers, and I am glad that I did. First of all, when it comes to the aesthetics of the speakers themselves, the CM10 towers add an element of “cool” with the free-mounted Nautilus tube tweeters compared to the CM9 towers or the smaller CM8 towers. Second, I based my purchase of the larger CM10s on the fact that they pair well with the CMC2, which is a substantially better center channel speaker than the smaller CMCC (as other reviewers have commented); pairing with the center channel speaker is important as the majority (~60-80% of a movie’s soundtrack) comes primarily through the center channel followed by the front channels. Third, I also enjoy listening to music in stereo, which is another reason I opted for the larger CM10s. Even though I haven’t been able to really push the limits of my speakers given the fact that I live in a townhouse and share walls with neighbors, I suppose the best part of having such high quality speakers is that they sound great at normal and even softer listening volumes. The clarity of sound is amazing compared to the 5.1 channel sound bar that I had been using for the previous five years. Watching movies in surround sound in my own home has never sounded so good. I popped the Transformers Blu-ray into my PS4, which has quite an impressive 5.1 Dolby Digital TrueHD soundtrack, and it was as if you could hear individual pieces of glass shattering in the battle scenes. On a side note, I bi-amped the speakers using my new Marantz NR1605 A/V receiver paired with Audio-Quest Rocket 33 speaker cables. I would highly recommend these speakers (and the matching center channel and surrounds) for your stereo or home theater setup. You will not be disappointed.

What is the best sound bar to use with this Sony TV, for ease of use, compatibility, quality of music and dialogue?

I would recommend the Sonos PLAYBASE or Sonos PLAYBAR. I have the Sonos PLAYBASE and two Sonos ONEs for this TV in my bedroom. I also have a PLAYBAR in my basement paired with the Sonos SUB and two Sonos PLAY:5s for my secondary TV room/rec room despite my Sony XBR 65-inch A1E OLED TV supposedly having an advanced built-in speaker system. Bulit-in speakers never sound that great in my opinion regardless of how advanced they claim to be. True surround sound with amp (or AV receiver) and wired speakers is always the best option, but not always the easiest to do unless you're building a new home. However, I will admit that I was pleasantly surprised how good the Sonos systems sound even when comparing them with my true 7.1 home theater setup with Bowers & Wilkins speakers. Plus, you don't necessarily have to buy all of the speakers at once. It is easily expandable. Hope this helps.

Need help deciding what tv--want good sound -want smart tv- want 43inch-easy to operate. 82 years of age not tech smart. Have samsung smart tv now--sound not so good. THANKS!

Depending on how old your Samsung Smart TV is, if sound is all you are worried about, I would recommend just getting a sound bar. Samsung makes sound bars that would easily integrate with your TV if worrying about being tech savvy is an issue. The entry level Samsung sound bars are also pretty inexpensive, but would still be an upgrade from the speakers built into your TV. However, I would recommend the Sonos PLAYBASE or Sonos PLAYBAR over any of the Samsung sound bars. Now, if your Samsung Smart TV is older, and you also want to upgrade the TV for picture quality, apps, etc., I just bought the Sony 43-inch XBR X800E and a Sonos PLAYBASE for my office, and I think they pair well together. (I also bought the Sanus TV stand designed for a flat panel TV and the Sonos PLAYBASE.) The Sony TV is easy to operate and has a Netflix button on the remote, assuming this may be one major reason you want a new smart TV. Sonos is also a very user-friendly platform for people who are not necessarily tech savvy as one digital optical audio cable from the back of the TV plugs into the Sonos PLAYBASE or Sonos PLAYBAR giving you much better sound. The setup is easy and is done through an app. You don't even need another remote like many other sound bars. Plus, the Sonos system can be expanded easily for whole home audio if desired later down the road. I have a Sonos PLAYBAR, two Sonos PLAY:5s, and the Sonos SUB for my secondary TV room/rec room as I could not retrofit true home theater wiring for speakers, etc., very easily in my basement. I was pleasantly surprised how good the surround sound system sounds by pairing the Sonos PLAYBAR with the Sonos PLAY:5s and Sonos SUB. If you like surround sound, you could add the Sonos SUB and any of the Sonos PLAY series speakers (ONE, 1, 3, or 5) for rear surround speakers. They're all wireless and have their own amplifiers. All you need is a nearby outlet for the power cords. So, if good sound is something you desire, start off with the Sonos PLAYBASE or PLAYBAR and you can always add other speakers later on for a more realistic surround sound experience. I included links to the individual products below. Hope this helps.
